I don't think this one is missing color, but just in case... I was scanning these two cards side by side and noticed the one on the right has more brownish hues, noticeable in the cheekbone, the jersey folds, and the mitt. Just a slight variation in printing or missing ink? Thoughts??

I know it has been discussed many times that almost all cards that are missing color and have back damage are suspect and I agree but I'm
not sure the back damage is the cause of the missing color on this Evers. Any opinions on this one (not my card). |

Pat, it looks to me like the colors faded. They're all lighter.

Tell tale on the Evers (in my opinion) is the faded brown. The name caption is faded in much the same way as "Cubs" on his chest is faded.

This Coles sure looks like that McCauley up at the start of this thread, though Erick has convinced me it is just faded red.

It's possible the brown layer got printed in gray rather than brown. But that's a very unusual mistake. Steve B |

Hi all, I'm Chris. I've been a member for about a year and recently starting following more closely, but haven't been posting. Time to change that.
Here are my two Gilberts missing red. The one on the right was discussed in a recent thread: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...ilbert+missing (normal Gilbert pictured there too). The one on the left I recently picked up for next to nothing on ebay. It's very heavy on green and brown, but lacks red. It also has massive back damage. Regarding the backs, other than reasonable skepticism and noted correlation is there any evidence that certain compounds applied to the back (or directly to the front for that matter) actually do preferentially remove red leaving other colors untouched? |
