I have a question regarding the Plank missing color: I always assumed that the light blue Plank occured because the printer ran out of blue ink, and that on the next sheet the white Plank was printed. Now I wonder if that is really what happened, because the light blue has a Sweet Cap back, but the white has a Piedmont back.
Could they still have been printed at the same time? Or would these error cards necessarily have occurred at different times? In that case what are the odds that the printers could have run out of blue ink twice at unrelated times while printing Plank, considering that so few Planks were ever produced at all?
I don't know much about the printing process, so maybe some of you who have studied this can help me. Thanks

I don't believe the "light blue" plank is from running out of ink. It received the light blue pass, but is missing the dark blue pass. The SC version may also different from the Piedmont with the "buff" color pass (although tough to tell in some scans). The SC appears to be missing it, while the Piedmont may have it.

Note this Bell card with the light blue and dark blue in the sky; light blue and dark blue are two different/distinct colors:

And notice that the dark blue pass on this Arndt is skewed right, with shows the light blue pass underneath:

Nice Arndt Erick, with that printer line!

I have an Arndt with a printer line, where the top layer blue misses low, so there is a line of light blue going across the top
