Default '71 Bazooka Dick Allen (Numbered)

Thanks to a heads up from CardinalCollector (thx, Randy) a ten year search has concluded. I overpaid but what the hey.

Default Dick Allen

That's great Jeff. He only played one year in St Louis and some were happy when they got him and some leery due to his history. Plus Curt Flood was part of the deal to get him and that raised controversy everywhere. But he had a very solid year for them in 1970, 30 +HRS and 100 + RBIs as I recall, and Jack Buck even agreed to call him Dick instead of Richie

Thanks Al. I remember it well. I remember really being bummed out that his 1970 Topps card was just a photo of him in a Phillies uniform turned sideways instead of a beautiful Cardinal uniform.

Attaboy Jeff--much nicer than his '70 Topps Cardinals. Was he ever really called just Rich Allen though?

BTW, can you tell me what is the approximate ratio of unnumbered to numbered '71 Bazooka cards? The latter don't seem to hit my radar hardly at all.

Default Allen

I edited above. When Flood refused to report ,the Phils got Montenez instead. Check out what he produced for them in 1971. He surpassed some of Allen's rookie stats

Todd,

Sorry I just now noticed your question. Based on my observations they are certainly scarcer but not extremely rare. I see see cards like the Robinson, Aparicio, McCovey and Gibson in the numbered variation a lot. For the life of me I could never find a Dick Allen. Even at 12 Nationals when someone would have a small stack of "numbered," no Allen.

Grabbed these up at a local show. A pretty decently shaped Mantle (looks better than what the scan shows) and a very tough '61 high number.
