Thanks, Ben. Part of the reason I had to have it was that my son Daniel was born at New York Presbyterian Hospital, which stands where Hilltop Park once stood. Here's the hospital entrance where we first brought Daniel out into the sunlight. It stands at 167th Street and Broadway--precisely where that original entrance to the park stood.

Thank you. The one with kids or the one of the Japan tour in 34? The reason I ask is people love individual Photos for different reasons and always wondering what others appreciate.

You can't see it from the photo, but the actual images are also embossed, so the catcher's mitt sticks out a bit.
Also, I didn't know about the Villisca axe murders, but looked them up last night. That will keep you up at night.

Hey guys,
I picked this up last week from Rhys: ![]() I've ALWAYS loved this shot of Reiser, but never could find a nice print of it, nor did I know the date. Now I've got both (June 3, 1941 - homer in the first inning!) and man, I need to paint it. Not that many people like Reiser. But I sure as sh*t do! Graig

I won this in Legendary's auction late last month but it finally arrived today. This is a postcard written and signed by Walter Johnson in 1908, just a few months into his second major league season. He wrote this card to his friend while aboard a boat crossing from Cleveland into Detroit for a game against the Tigers. Walter mentions Washington's win over Cleveland that day. This is one of the earliest known examples of Walter Johnson's signature. Signed Walter J.

I was happy to win it. You got a great E107 though. I'm still looking for one of those.
I matched mine against the one Hunts sold that was only initialed. Mine was sent earlier. I heard of a third one floating around and I'd love to see the date on it. Last edited by packs; 03-22-2013 at 02:44 PM. |

My computer has been out of commission recently, but I have been fortunate to pick up some extremely nice new Vander Meer Type I photos in the interum.
Many thanks to net54's own Graig Kreindler and Rhys Yeakley for providing assists. ![]() These photos feature: 1) Vandy signs for fans on 6-23-38 at the Polo Grounds not long after he pitched his double no-hit games. 2) Vander Meer pitching at Crosley Field in his rookie season 1938 3) Two photos of Vandy pitching at historic Wrigley Field in September 1939. 4) Vandy being greeted by female fans upon return to Cincinnati in late June 1938. Vander Meer would go on to start the 1938 All-Star game at Cincinnati less than 2 weeks later, picking up the win for the NL. Vandy only gave up 1 hit in 3 IP at the mid-summer classic in '38, shutting down HOF'ers Jimmie Foxx, Joe DiMaggio, Charlie Gehringer and a host of others. 5) Major leaguers Johnny Vander Meer and Al Lyons greet Rollie Helmsley upon arrival at Sampson (NY) Naval Base in 1944. The heavily vaunted "Sampson 9" had just won the first 25 of 26 games that they had played in prior to Helmsley joining the team- some team! Last edited by Scott Garner; 03-23-2013 at 07:21 AM. |

Well it has been a while since I posted any pickups. I've been spending money on getting the basement finished so I would have a place to hang all this stuff. So far, my room is done so I am starting to go through some stuff to decide what to hang etc and came across some things I forgot I had.
Late 50's 60's UPI restrike pic of Joe D and Cronin. Signed by both. ![]() Type 1 of Ford and Mantle. The back has a NY times stamp without a zip code. I know original NY times pics are rare as they haven't sold their pic archives. I have not seen any exemplars of other NYT stamps either. So I just won on ebay this set of pics of Mel Ott.
I got them for 2 reasons. First Mel Ott was my dad's favorite player, so I always have a soft spot for him. Second is that it goes with the other pics taken prior to the 1936 WS of Lou and them together. ![]() ![]() ![]() Interestingly enough, on the right edge of the top Ott pic there is a brown shadow that matches with a similar one on the left of the second pic. The reason i find it interesting is that my two Gehrig photos are taped together with a similar brown tape. I wonder if they are still connected. The seller didn't specify either way. I'll see when they get here. ![]() I also picked up a nice pic of Lou with his wife.

Lance,
Thanks very much. It is an interesting thing. There is only one exemplar in the Yee-Fogel book, but it is so small, you can barely make it out. The book states that since 1941 none of the Times pics were used for syndication, so originals are very difficult to find. I didn't know this until tonight rereading that section. I've had the pic for a very long time, so I have no idea where I got it. Mark

Roger Hornsby did not sign a contract with Hillerich and Bradsby until I believe 1926. One of these which was a sidewritten R.H. bat recently sold in the Feb. Heritage Auction. (#80097) If I remember, I saw another one as well a very long time ago as well. Pictures also apparently exist showing Hornsby in the Cardinals dugout posing with one of these R.H. bats which shows the label turned toward the camera. Thanks.
