Look forward to seeing them as well. Don't really care about the written words just the card beauty.

This shop owner must only deal with new stuff, like most shop owners now days. To maximize profits why would you send vintage cards to Beckett? Also who would call '33 Goudey's as a "rare brand of card"? Then to top it off he can't distinguish between a 1914 and 1915 Cracker Jack, instead lumps them as one grouping (or at least that is how I read that part since they don't distinguish what year the Jackson is from).

The site I write columns for Sports Collectors Daily (a valued advertiser on Net 54) posted the story
And I was thinking about the Beckett line when i read the story. Remember that Beckett still has very good equity as a hobby name and not all store owners are even aware of PSA or SGC. Thus the owner knew Beckett had a grading service and sent in cards accordingly. Regards Rich |

Well, it wouldn't surprise me with the guy in the article. He apparently hasn't heard of any Babe Ruth cards before the '33 Goudey..

In part, he may have been making it simple for the reporter and readers who know little about cards. And reporters have been known to paraphrase from memory.

If T3 Turkey Reds are from 1922, he doesn't know about PSA or SGC and thinks that Babe Ruth didn't have any cards made before 1933, what are the chances of a/some rare cards being in the find that he doesn't know about?
I mean, if the guy is using a Beckett price guide and an obscure card or rare back T card isn't listed then this guy probably isn't going to know anything about it....... David |

That was the most frustrating hobby related article I've ever read.

I don't care what the store owner doesn't know, at least he didn't try to low ball the customer who brought them in. He realized he couldn't afford to buy the cards and is trying to help them get top dollar.

Matthew,
That is true, however---- 1) If he doesn't know the year the T3's were made 2) Doesn't know about PSA or SGC and 3) doesn't know that there were cards made of Babe Ruth before the 1933 Goudey's THEN it is very likely that he wont be getting "top dollar" for the cards. David |
