Phil, I did some more googling and found this: KC Courier News article on Stengel

The article describes his time playing for Aurora in 1911. It also has a gallery of photos, including one of Stengel with the KC Red Sox - while he's not wearing a sweater as he is in my photo, it's clearly the same player, and he appears to even be wearing the exact same uniform in both photos. The Baseball Hall of Fame could definitely be wrong, but I like their thinking.

Click on the small 'gallery' image of Stengel to the left to get a larger image and the following text below the photo: "Casey Stengel with the Kansas City Red Sox, one season before he came to Aurora. Photo courtesy~Baseball Hall of Fame"

This corroborates my theory which I explained to you by email. The postcard back is a 'KRUXO' with clubs in the corners, dating it to the correct years.

Also, I know I spotted a postcard of the 1910 Maysville team, but now I can't find it for anything.

Here is a young Brooklyn Stengel, the KC Courier image, and my image:

You've got a very good case there, Scott. I guess now the big question is whether or not the postcard is real since you doubted its authenticity earlier. I wish you were closer to me, I would be happy to take a look and give you my opinion, for what it's worth. I know you have handled lots of real photo postcards before and are probably more of an expert than I am.

Thanks. I am pretty good with photos, but every now and then I get one that just doesn't look quite right - probably paranoia on my part, but David will have it in hand in 30 minutes, so we'll know then.

It looks more 'good' than it does 'bad'.

I got this in the mail today. It is not even for my personal collection as he is not an American and I only collect images of American Olympians. This signature is nice for my Olympic Autograph database. Probably the only exemplar collection of just Olympians. It does not have a full postcard back, just the address lines, but is it printed on RPPC paper so I feel it fits in the category.

This is Claes Johanson (1884-1949) - He won a gold medal in Greco-Roman Wrestling (middleweight) at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm and a gold medal in Greco-Roman Wrestling (light heavyweight) at the 1920 Olympics in Antwerpen. He also competed in 1924 in Paris, but did not medal at the age of 40.

He has signed the back. Below his signature it reads: 'Olympiska Mastare 1920' - Olympic Champion 1920 and 'Goteborg, Sverige' - Goteborg, Sweden, the town he lived in.

Cap Anson's Colts playing in Marengo, IL, August 28, 1908.

I did a comprehensive research project on this postcard, complete with newspaper accounts of the game. It's an interesting read!

Do J.D. McCarthy's count? Have 610 signed hockey with 417 being Red Wings. This includes back variations with the same front pose. Haven't counted the signed baseball ones I have.
Anyone out there collect McCarthy's but especially signed ones?

Love those Paul! Used to own the Pirates, so many HOFers in that shot.

I used to live in Satellite Beach by the way, small world.

I collect McCarthy postcards of the Baltimore Orioles. I have 30 of 31. I still need the Milt Pappas (squatting). Can anyone help?

Hi there - yes, I collect JD McCarthy PCs. I am also building off the work of Dan Even (or maybe it was someone else) to try to document all the front/back combinations of baseball McCarthys out there. It's an impossible task, but someone's gotta do it.

I can't believe you have that many hockey ones. I probably have a little over 100 hockey. We'll need to touch base at some point to compare notes.

Alan - I'll see if I have a Pappas squatting. According to the "Legend For McCarthy Baseball Postcards" (rev. 10/26/2010), I also see that there are 31 examples of Orioles players. I haven't gotten around to documenting the Orioles yet of the images I have saved to see if there are more out there. If I find any others you are missing, I'll let you know. Good luck!

If you need any hockey I have many signed and unsigned and none of that Red Wimmer reprints people think are the real thing.
I remember you could buy singles from McCarthy at 25 cents each thru the mail. He even put one out featuring himself.

I know there are a few blank back postcards that were actually issued before Red Wimmer bought the rights/collection (due to postage stamps on the back). Are most blank backed ones, though, reprints made by Wimmer?

His are easy to tell from the real ones as the paper stock is very thin.

good to know. Thanks for sharing. I think I have noticed a few paper thin ones in my collection, so perhaps I've been duped in a few instances. Do any of the Wimmer reprints have a postcard back or the post 1963 JD McCarthy one line address on the back? Or are they all blank backed?

Picked this up earlier this year. Was listed as the 1914 York Prohibitionists, though I’m not sure about the year. Guy on the bottom right looks like Dutch Wetzel to me. Anyone recognize any of the other players?

One more thing. I received quite a few signed Red Wings by writing players during the 70's. The only color I don't have signed is Pierre Jarry. Can't seem to get him TTM but then no one does.

Sweet! Where did you get the images for that team set? It looks like a variation of the pdf listing I have from Dan Even. I'll keep my eye out to see if I have a Pappas squatting JDMc PC somewhere in my collection.
