wst are a more "common" print anomally(especially tollies) , but you two have are the rare caption printed........

Yet WST seem to bring little or no premium--is that correct. I have a nice one so have more than a little interest in this, but I can't seem to find examples of real premiums, looking at graded cards, at various auctions and eBay. Thoughts?

I had truly hoped that other board members would have weighed in before now. Candidly, I have almost no experience with T206 print oddities. After all, before yesterday, I largely ignored them. As such, I cannot offer an informed answer to your question.

Having said that, I can offer a personal observation. It seems to me that there is a demand for cards such as these. Whether this is a short or long term situation is anyone's guess; however, one thing is certain. T206 cards with print anomalies currently draw the attention of a certain segment of Pre-War baseball card collectors.

Beyond this, I can only speculate...however...if Leon is OK with this, I would be open to conducting a blind poll on the matter. Should T206 cards with a WST command a premium?

Quite an inetersting question...in my humble and admittedly inexperienced opinion.

Eric, you will continue to search these freaks it's so addicting...
To answer your question....There are small premuims put on wst currently, but i think that will change as collectors realize they are a pretty neat print freaks...wst are simply the transer of not dried ink onto either the front or the back of a card, and usually have the reverse of the image due to the placement.....The wst are debated wether some occurred at the factory, or some say wst caused by storage years later due to enviromental conditions(fire, water, pressure, chemical, ect)....the ones caused after the factory have ZERO premuim put on them sincwe they are technically altered cards after the fact....but the ones caused at the factory carry a premuim according to how DRAMATIC or DEEP or CLEAR, or ODD ( LIKE eRIc and Jantz have the factory shown which is much rarer than the ones just showing the back and not the clear factory)....those tolstois are more common wst, but the factory is not, and id put your cards at least $120.00 plus ....and i truly feel they will double as interest increases for the neat little oddities....so YES!! your cards will/should carry some premuim....

The premuim on the wst transfer varies due to many variables....(back/front/clear / darker images/ect/captions)....and can vary quite large...

Sometimes wet sheet transfers can bring a premium, but I believe it comes down to an individual's preference.

A collector may wish to pay a premium if he chooses, but back brands like Old Mill, Tolstoi and Sweet Caporal are fairly common with wet sheet transfers. A good example is the two Abbaticchios that Eric & I have posted. If we each have one, then I'm sure there are more.

In some cases though when a wet sheet transfer is truly unique or extreme, a premium might be in order.

A lot of Polar Bear back T206s have mild wet sheet transfers. Most appear as just a blue line running along a white border or two. In an extreme case though, like the Needham I have shown, I would be willing to pay a premium, while other collectors may dislike the card because the wet sheet transfer distracts from the overall front image.

**added after reading Johnny's post** - I was jumping back & forth between Ebay & Net54 and didn't get to read Johnny's post until I posted mine. I concur with what Johhny has said. A premium can depend on the factors of the wet sheet transfer.

I agree with Johnny & Jantz. I like them alot, going back to Johnny's "snowflake" term,,,,,it makes the card a little more unique. As far as a premium, it probably boils down to who is wanting it and what someone is willing to pay. I think over time WST will become more popular and if that's the case, they may command a little more $$ (and, no, I don't own a crystal ball ).

Agreed, most tend to take away from eye appeal but some can definitely command a premium.

Speaking of WST twins, I have seen another one of these Stephens with name on the back.

Hi guys, this is the first time I've successfully posted a scan. I have a number of Wet Sheet Transfers, but this one is special. I can't explain how it can be this dark. Maybe someone can tell me how this happened.
