Odd little item. The Marquess of Queensberry rules were written in 1865, published in 1867.

Poor man's Sockalexis...
img461.jpg img462.jpg It is actually an interesting piece. It is a cutout from a yearbook and pasted on a cabinet type cardboard backing. The oddest part is the writing on the back, and the fact that the old sticker is on top of the writing. I think it might have been used for a display, but I am not sure. I am also amazed at how many members of this team made the major leagues. Alan |

I just picked up this original photo of Johnny Vander Meer that was taken at Ebbets Field on 6/17/38- two days after he threw his second consecutive no-hitter.
The way that the unnamed photographer captured the grandeur of Ebbets in the background is pretty special, IMHO. I suspect that this photo was a posed shot in response to the media frenzy surrounding the aftermath of the event... |

Picked this up from a local friend in a trade this week. Dated 1909.

That bat box is fantasic. Dove-tail boxes with good honest wear and what a great font on the ends. Is it impressed, paint stamped or painted? Looks impressed but pics can be deceiving.
Love the leopard spot burn bat also. Beautiful. |

Thanks Martin. The lettering is impressed and painted. The parts I like about it are the minor imperfections from being handmade. One of the hinge placements is a little off compared to the other only noticeable when the box is opened. Plus he must have made a mistake on one of the end pieces as it has the lettering on the inside too. Probably realized he marked the wrong end.
