I agree! Anyone can own a Mantle! But a Curt Raydon rookie card...priceless!

59's were cards I remember seeing as a kid and loving them!

Thanks for having me look up info on Curt. He looked like he might have really been a good pitcher had it not be for his arm troubles. Pitching only 1 season and having a 8-4 record with a 4-hit shutout against the Giants was pretty good. After his arm tightness in 59 pitching in AAA he never pitched again and became a policeman. Very interesting!

Ok Al, you've piqued my curiosity. Pitched one year in the majors, was 8-4 with a 3.67 ERA. If I'm a manager, that's a guy that's getting a roster spot, or at the very least, an invite to spring training in 1959. But that was it for him. Out of the majors at 24 years of age.

Wikipedia's limited page for him doesn't mention anything peculiar. So what happened?

Hmm,

http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Curt_Raydon

Seems he developed a cyst on the middle finger of his pitching hand, and arm issues, and was sent to AAA the next season. Never made it back to the majors.

Well, if you're only going to make it for one season, that's not a bad one to have. Bet he has some stories to tell the kids and grandkids. He played with a couple future Hall of Famers in Clemente and Mazerowski.

Picked up this cool card...I've never owned a Ralph Kiner, and I still don't, lol. Part of a trade with Jason my brother for his extra 65 Mantle and for his 54 Bowman set...
