Also have a few others in my Dodger and Giants and Jewish collections.

Lessor condition on the superstars, but i love them just the same.

after failing as a pitcher, he posted only 4 full seasons as a hitter but 4
very impresive seasons, i think he still has the record for hits in the NL

I was also brought back into card collecting by the '33 Goudey's, had never collected vintage until I was able to purchase a decent sized lot after a friend's dad had passed away. They are also the reason I eventually found this site.

I had never even seen a Ruth card in person before I first pulled this out of an old cigar box that the gentleman kept his cards in.

Who were you gonna post? I can tell you one thing, New York has had 4 major teams, and as far as i can see, only 1 man has either played for or managed all 4 teams - Brooklyn Dodgers, NY Giants, NY Yankees and the NY Mets - Casey Stengel!!!! Too bad he didnt have a 1933 Goudey Card!!!

But tell me who you were gonna show me!!

Adding link to his career stats. I don't care if they played 198 games, 309 hits during the 1925 PCL season is pretty savage!! As are his post age 30 MLB hitting numbers.

I'm ashamed I don't know more about him.. This makes me wanna learn more about the "why's" of his career path. I know he was a legend (player then manager) in the PCL, lasting long after his ML career was over. He played a big part in bringing baseball and Western goodwill back to Japan following WWII... But aside from that, his crazy stats and eating at his restaurant a few times, I don't know much about the man.

His age and stat line make me think of Roy Hobbs, minus the splotch of ketchupy blood and rapid demise
