Never said the final price was "ridiculous", just wasn't worth it to me to pay more than $500 for it. It was worth $1000.00 to someone, congrats on the great purchase, shows how strong the postcard market is becoming. I believe ebay sales to be somewhat accurate, some postcards sell very high and very rarely does one sneak through un-noticed. The whole "people don't bid because of bay fees" thing never factors in. When you want something, who cares about the fees.

Jeff, I know you didn't refer to the bidding as being ridiculous. My post was directed at Phil's comments farther up the thread, not yours.

This was actually the first non-eBay auction I've ever bid on. Thanks to a certain card being in this auction (the T3 Tris Speaker) and the fact that Al C. was running the show, I registered and won four lots. This was the key card I was aiming for, and I couldn't be more pleased (my max bid was actually a bit higher than the winning bid, so from my limited experience LOTG is an auction house I can trust)...

Default Rudy Strejc Collection...

I had 85 lots, 83 of them sold! Some came in lower than expected, others way above. In the end, I'm very happy with the results and truly appreciate Al's expert handling of the collection.

My family is grateful to this community for the strong showing and we're happy that the collection is passed on to those of you who will cherish the cards as Rudy did.

Sorry but minor league team postcards picturing pre-rookie Hall of Famers routinely sell on e-bay in the $200 - $500 range, including Joe McCarthy, Casey Stengel, Stan Coveleski, Dave Bancroft, Dazzy Vance and many others. I would put Frank Baker in a similar class as far as tier level Hall of Famer. I have picked up Tris Speaker and Rogers Hornsby (much higher level HOF'ers) on e-bay for $800 and $900 respectively. Therefore, the Baker postcard last night was not a good value, just a must-have for someone willing to pay "whatever it takes" to get it.

To clarify, I wasn't referring the reasoning in my post to the Ebay fee's. I was was referring to the many collectors who do not even search Ebay anymore for what they collect as much as they once did. I know many board members who have totally banished them as one of their sources anymore. I can also tell you many pc's are still listed in the wrong category and do get missed my many alot. I think a couple high profile pc collectors here will agree if they wish to chime in. I think it's safe to say collectors who saw this pc in the auction last night and were active bidders probably never caught it when listed on Ebay. Just my two cents fellas. Doesn't mean we need to agree.

You're right, Tony. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, it was missed by many (including myself) on e-bay because the seller listed it under Postcards - People rather than Postcards - Sports. Even so, I don't think that it would have topped $500. The writing on the front was also a detractor for me. I know that it pre-dates the divided-backs era and that's why but still would prefer a blank one to that one.
