I had the good fortune to work for the Cubs for seven years in the 80's and was able to talk to several of the "old timers" who hang around the ball park about the Ruth called shot. A few of these people I talked to were former players who were not on the field that day but in the stands and another was the electrician who worked at Wrigley back then. Each person, to a man states that Ruth didnt call his shot but was pointing to the Cubs dugout after the first pitch and said "thats one!". The second pitch came and he yelled to the Cubs dugoot, "Thats two!". On the last pitch he parked it over the temporary bleachers and laughed his ass off all the way around the bases.

The film that emerged a few years ago seem to back this story up and yes, this is the one game I wish I could go back and see. Listening to the old men who were actually there was as close as I am ever going to get.

The second all-star game at the polo grounds July 10th 1934.
If I can only go back to see one game this would be a great one that would allow me to see the Polo grounds and see more players play. In 33 I would have gotten to see Ruth hit a homer, but less players played. Plus adding Hubbell's 5 consecutive strike outs of Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin would be a feat that would be interesting to see.
