I think you omitted the obvious choice:
This whole episode is moronic on an epic level and is getting more attention than the national championship game and the Heisman contest themselves.

Couldn't have happened at a better time for Lance Armstrong.
The last two weeks seem to have cost him a bucket of money.

I think one thing it tells you is that America is fascinated by the absurd. Armstrong doped and lied about it, but a lot of athletes did. Plus, everyone already knew he was guilty. But the Te'o story defies explanation... it is strange. That's what makes it so interesting.
