Judging by the final price of the Greminger, I guess there weren't as many T206 freak and blank-back collectors in 2008 as there are now.

I'm guessing that's part of the reason why this card did not go higher?

My guess is it didn't go higher because blank backs weren't the flavor of the month -- or year -- like they are now.

Default How it turned out

For anyone who may have been wondering how this transaction turned out, here's what happended....

I was the winner of the auction that ended on 12/14/12. I promptly paid the seller and patiently waited...and waited...and waited. The last day of the expected delivery window was 1/8/13. When it didn't arrive in the mail on 1/8/13, I sent the seller a friendly inquiry asking for confirmation as to whether or not the card had been shipped. Less than 24 hours later I received the following response:

"Hi,
The card is getting sent back for grading (SGC) do due questionable authenticity.
in the mean time i will refund your money. Sorry for the inconvenience."

I immediately checked my Paypal account and found a refund for the full amount. I wasn't sure how to respond, so I never did. Then the next day, the seller provided me with ebay positive feedback.

I envisioned many scenarios, but this was certainly not one of them!

I'm nearly certain the card is authentic, so on one hand, I'm irked that the seller backed out of the transaction. But on the other hand, I'm glad I came out whole because for a while there it wasn't looking very good!

It sounds like he learned that SGC encapsulates blank backs and that he can probably get a lot more for it once it's authenticated. So watch for this card to hit the market again in an SGC holder! (Johnny - you'll get another chance at it!)

What would you do if you were me? Leave negative feedback because he back out of the transaction? Or just let it go since he voluntarily refunded my payment?

Thanks.

Steve

I would ask him to give you first crack at the card since you were high bidder. Did you ask for a refund or hint you had concerns or did he just take it upon himself to refund you and start over...if so I would be firm that you won the auction and he should send you your card.

Cheers,

John

Default Wonka

Wonka - I never even mentioned the word refund. I sent him a single e-mail through ebay simply asking if the card had been shipped or not. The refund was completely voluntary on his part.

I'm afraid he's going to up the asking price significantly once it's authenticated.

Good suggestion though. Thanks.

Steve

Steve, that sucks! I would pressure him big time to honor the sale at this point then.

Option two ask him if you can have the card once back from SGC at small agreed to premium above your winning bid.

If he doesn’t bite on those then I would consider giving him the mark on the feedback.

Just my two cents, sorry this happened to you.

Cheers,

John

Default Somebody Said They Wanted It More

There were probably a significant amount of PM's etc. from jackasses that fouled this transaction for you...I'm sorry for you if ithats the case. Maybe Jack A's from this board? You should ask the seller about that IMO...too many T206 collecters with agressive and immature tendancies and a lack of tact to rule this possibility out....just sayin'.
