Rob...

if the under bidder on the murphy had won the card for $29K... I don't think one person would be saying that he got the card for a good price..

Default Murphy

I feel pretty sure whoever was bidding on the Murphy didn't care about resale value, only securing the card for their collection.

Agreed. But if that person was from the board and posted that he got the card for that price, no one would post that he pissed away money.

Jamie, you also claimed that this card is worth only $3500 when you tried to lift it from me. Maybe you're not the best judge of card values -- even though you claim to be an expert.

Jeff,

cards like that are a little tougher to judge value on.. and after offering you 3500 blindly...I offered you $10K for it.. after doing more research to find out what you paid on it when you bought it... I guess you forgot to mention that though

but thanks for throwing in your 2 cents...

Except you admitted later that you tried to steal it from me. I guess you forgot that part.

What that Murphy did was set a price point for a 1/1 with a rare back. That will now be used as a benchmark when discussing 1/1 with rare backs. Whether or not the card hits that high water mark again, prices of 1/1s have been crazy high. Unconfirmed Piedmonts go for 10x market value so why shouldn't unconfirmed rare backs?

But that aside, my point was on the editorial comments, not the facts.

Some people are running out of time faster than money... waiting for another probably wasn't an option.

I also wouldn't knock a guy for being in a place where money isn't an issue. I don't know who bought these cards, but it's safe to say they probably don't care about resell value.
