Storing Older Sets

+1... if protecting high quality cards is the priority, I'd choose something more secure, too, especially if you thumb through the pages often to enjoy them. Dropping them in soft, penny sleeve and into a rigid or semi-rigid card holder might be a better idea.

I don't like binders for the reasons skelly mentioned above - top corners tend to come out of the pages and get nicked up a little.

I just use a Card Saver (well, actually the Ultra Pro equivalent) with no penny sleeve. Then the cards are stored in a vault box. If there is any extra room in the box, I use wadded up plastic bags to fill the void.

I am using both Monster boxes and binders. While it is true that the binders do endanger the corners, they do allow for easier viewing whenever you just HAVE to look at some cards. I tend to start out with top loaders and penny sleeves when the set is managable and convert to a binder once I make enough headway so as to not have too many empty pages in a row. One additional issue is that there are 9 pockets for post-1956 and 8 pockets for the oversized 1952-1956 Topps and 1953-1955 Bowmans. There are even tobacco card pages but the medium sized cards such as 1948-1952 Bowman, 1951 Topps, or any of the Play Balls just seem to travel about in the pockets. In addition to the dangers, it looks like hell. For now I am just biting the bullet and keeping them in toploaders/sleeves in a box. The box becomes a horizontal space which attracts clutter. I NEVER seem to look at them except to add cards to the stack.
