The Wagner has sort of a perfect storm of aspects that make a great collectible.
Great player or subject
great story
rare enough to be very hard to find, but not so rare that it's impossible. While that varies from hobby to hobby it seems to settle in around 50-100 of something in mainstream hobbies, much lower for others.

Plank is rare enough and great enough, but doesn't have the story.
The Doyle is too rare and hasn't got much else going for it.


Without the Wagner T206 being what it is our entire hobby could be very different.
