You really shouldn't save pictures to your camera. If the camera or the memory card dies, then you lose everything. I keep all my pictures in 3 places: 1. On the computer; 2. USB drive; and 3. Photobucket. Nothing is ever lost.
For your issue, try changing the Import Settings. In my computer, right click your device and choose IMPORT (something like that). Then, on the next message box, there will be an Import Settings. That could work. But if you take the pictures off of the camera, you probably won't have the problem. I upload from Windows 7 all the time and no issues.
