Bought my first t206 Downey Fielding probably in the late 80's early 90's just so I would have an old card. Didn't catch the fever.... must not have been many available in my area ?

Fast forward to my next t206 : Matty Black Cap October 2009.

Summer of '09 I hadn't bought a card or thought much about them in over 10 years, got the urge to buy a couple of packs at Target, Picked upper deck Goudey and Topps Allen and Ginter, started looking around the internet, found this site, read "The Celebrant", started looking at Matty cards.....

Right now I'm at 518/520 and can't see myself going past 520. I plan to slowly upgrade my set from "poor/fair/good" to "good" with a nice variety of less common backs.

Started 1978? Maybe 77. Never really made an effort to concentrate on it.
Up to about 174, all but two brands, and all but 6 backs. (And no real surprises which ones I'm missing.)

Kinda wished I'd worked more at it early on. Vg or better were everywhere, commons 1.50, HOF usually $10 with cobb being a bit more. And the backs usually didn't matter at all unless it was Drum Or Uzit. The tough cards were maybe a couple hundred? I couldn't afford them back then either, so I didn't really keep track. Wagner $10K if you could find one.

I would have thought someone like myself was old.

Wait 30 years and your definition of old will change. It's all relative.

I am a vintage (not old) collector, who collects vintage items.

Started prewar in 2006 to answer the thread question.

Started about 4 years ago, and I'm about 10% complete. Then again, I only buy mid grade cards graded by PSA. I'm kinda picky that way. No hurry to finish the set, I'm enjoying the journey.

Not a slam, just an observation. Nothing personal and no apology is required. My French would not be understandable. Your English is fine.

What Frank said. I can barely understand any French, and my wife tells me my attempts at speaking it are impossible to understand.

I was 14-15 years old when I bought my first T206, so I'm a youngish old collector.

The club I was in had one speaker talking about hobby things. He started asking how many people had been collecting a year, then 3, then 5 then 10 then 20. That narrowed it down to about 5 people. Then he asked how many had over 20 years and weren't dealers.....That left just me.
