Some of the very first grading that SGC did when Merkle was there is pretty sloppy.

I don't think SGC would deny that.
They've matured a great deal since.

The SGC 98 Alcott N172 is a prime example. The back is completely tobacco stained and I doubt it could get an SGC 60 today.

A scan of the front used to be available on the BMW web site. The front looks great. It is the back that is stained and I have never seen a scan of that posted.

the back looks better than the front because it is borderless. Of course, the top edge of the front is borderless too

It would probably be longer for two reasons:

1. The anti-PSA sentiment runs extremely high on this board.

2. PSA has graded a crap load of card compared to SGC.

I just find it amusing that there is this almost childlike embracing of certain entities by some people as if they are all good or all bad. The same reasoning process that is used in making rational discernment in everyday life often gets tossed out the window in issues that become overly-emotional for some. It's as humorous as listening to homers rant about the virtues of their particular sports team.

I've said it before. IMO, Joe Orlando is an empty suit. He has obfuscated the truth on several issues with PSA; most notably WIWAG, the Rose Rookie and Dan's card. I think that he is bad for PSA and card collecting.

Heres a new form of a psa mistake,i personally have nothing against them but i didnt want to start a new thread for this card.This is their version of correcting a spelling problem that never happened.It appears that the makers of the t206s wanted to spell Pryor McElveen's name wrong but they didnt.PSA knew that and labeled this card as such

Sorry David, but I just can't let this sort of pedantic rhetoric go unchallenged. In reality, SGC (Sportscard Guaranty, LLC) is 99% good and only 1% evil while PSA (Professional Sportscard Authenticator) is a mere 86% good and (should this be a surprise to anyone?) 14% evil.

I think SGC cards need to be looked at in two categories--Joe Merkel and prior and Derek and post Derek. I had some old SBC and SGC cards that were auction-house material and every company I approached(Lelands, Mile High, and others) said I would need to have them regraded by SGC. Some achieved their old grades, some did not, one was not deemed gradable.
