Turner, this postcard was most likely taken in Los Angeles for Spring Training. Dingman was a photographer noted for taking photos of the PCL LA teams. |

Turner, I have seen this one only a few times. It's not a common one that's for sure. |

For sure he is neither Payne nor Sullivan, nor is he Bruno Block who also caught in 1910, but is elsewhere in the photo. |

Mike - actually piling on is immature, I have to learn to resist the prompting, and it is effectively hijacking Turner's nice thread. |

Jim VB - actually even my last comment was intended to be in good humor - though it probably did not come across that way. I don't think we really hijacked the thread - a few side O/T comments are pretty common. (: (: |

Sometimes hijacking a thread will in turn give it more views because people are more apt to click on a thread that is getting a lot of responses. |

If anyone ever runs across a photo of Harry Smith in a White Sox uniform I'd dearly love to see it. He pitched only one game for the White Sox in 1912 going 5 innings, giving up one run and getting the win. It's a real mystery to me why he never played in the majors again after that kind of performance. It wasn't an injury because he played minor league ball in Nebraska after that. |

Always looking for better images of short time major leaguers - and yours are a lot better than the Lincoln, Western League photo in the 1915 Spalding Guide. |

Dan - since it's the 1915 Guide - it's the 1914 team - so maybe you have seen it. If not, just go to the LoC Spalding Guides site |

Yep, I have seen it...I saved all the Lincoln photos from the LOC site to my computer. I wish they'd update that site..there are a bunch of missing years from that collection. |

Full digitization of the Spalding and Reach Guides is often discussd as a SABR or SABR/LoC project. It will happen eventually - though I don't know when. |

Mark, do you know what was the first year they started putting team photos into the Spalding guides? A fine upstanding member of the Net 54 (Hi Jeremy!) once sent me a photo from the 1896 guide of the 1895 Lincoln team. |

Yes - the 1895 Guide was the first - with 1894 team photos. I have copies of images from then through the 1905 Guide if you have any requests. |
