I definitely see where you are coming from, though. Mark: Thank you for identifying a few members of the team. I've added them to the list. You definitely know your players. Dan: Thank you for the images. The backgrounds are identical in all three images. Very interesting stuff. Higher resolution scans forthcoming. Turner Engle Edited to add: The first guy to the left, in the second row is holding a catcher's mitt. It must be either Fred Payne or Billy Sullivan?

Posted By: Mark FimoffFor sure he is neither Payne nor Sullivan, nor is he Bruno Block who also caught in 1910, but is elsewhere in the photo. It may very well be Ed Hahn - it's just not clear enough for me to be sure. Why he would be holding a catchers mitt? - I don't know. They guy left of Shano Collins is Frank Smith. ------- Dan -- nice Oakland photo - there aren't many good photos of Ed Pinky Swander around that I know of. I have one, yours is the only other one I have seen.

Posted By: Dan BrettaIf anyone ever runs across a photo of Harry Smith in a White Sox uniform I'd dearly love to see it. He pitched only one game for the White Sox in 1912 going 5 innings, giving up one run and getting the win. It's a real mystery to me why he never played in the majors again after that kind of performance. It wasn't an injury because he played minor league ball in Nebraska after that. Posted By: MarkFull digitization of the Spalding and Reach Guides is often discussd as a SABR or SABR/LoC project. It will happen eventually - though I don't know when. Some Reach Guides have recently appeared on Google books - 1902 - 3 - 4, 1905 -6 -7, 1910 - 11.
