Default Hal Chase T3 Doesn’t Make the Grade

Recently , I was very excited to have won a T3 Hal Chase on an eBay auction that had the Authenticity Guarantee. It had arrived at the Grading center a few days ago. Today I got an email from eBay telling me that the Hal Chase card did not meet their standards and was rejected. A refund was issued that will take 3-5 days.
Having been critical of this process in the past, but never being shy to admit when I was wrong….I was wrong about the eBay Authenticator. If indeed this card is bogus, eBay saved me a large amount of cash. It gives a myriad of reasons why they rejected it, but nothing specific. All I can come up with is it was most likely a fake, although, I’ll never know for sure. Below are the images and the message from eBay. My recent Frank Chance red portrait DID pass inspection and is on its way to me. I’m waiting for news on a T3 of Bobby Wallace I bought on the same night from the same seller ( pictured last) It is in a slab, PSA 1(MK)……….I’ll keep you posted.
This seller had a ton of T3’s that auctioned off that night, mostly raw like my Hal Chase. I’m hoping my Hal was the exception and not the rule.

So back to square one….still need a T3 Hal Chase….hopefully I can find a real one.

Interesting take.

Usually this is where you would post your grievances against the AG program, and how you can tell that it's real, and these dilettantes are getting between you and a deal for perfectly good cardboard.

I did check the verification on PSA and it checked out there.

What was the described condition? Maybe it failed for that reason.

Well, that could be our answer.

If they actually thought that this piece is near mint or better, then whoever wrote the description seems like they need some lessons on grading raw cards.

Looks good to me. It would be interesting to know if the other raw T3s were all kicked back, since they all seem to be listed as near mint or better.

That card is real, so they kicked it because it didn't match the condition in the listing. Probstein called in "Ungraded - Near mint or better" and that card definitely is not near mint or better. (There is also a tiny chance Probstein shipped the wrong card, but this is almost certainly for the stated condition.) If you still want it, I'd call Probstein and tell him you'll buy it direct minus the 10% in Ebay fees:

I’m pretty sure that Probstein’s eBay fees are lower than 10%, as I suspect that he has a fancy eBay store and lots of volume that gets him a lower fee schedule.

I'm curious why, after reading the list of criteria for rejection, you thought fake card was the most likely reason.
