Hal Chase T3 Doesn’t Make the Grade
5 Attachment(s)
Recently , I was very excited to have won a T3 Hal Chase on an eBay auction that had the Authenticity Guarantee. It had arrived at the Grading center a few days ago. Today I got an email from eBay telling me that the Hal Chase card did not meet their standards and was rejected. A refund was issued that will take 3-5 days.
Having been critical of this process in the past, but never being shy to admit when I was wrong….I was wrong about the eBay Authenticator. If indeed this card is bogus, eBay saved me a large amount of cash. It gives a myriad of reasons why they rejected it, but nothing specific. All I can come up with is it was most likely a fake, although, I’ll never know for sure. Below are the images and the message from eBay. My recent Frank Chance red portrait DID pass inspection and is on its way to me. I’m waiting for news on a T3 of Bobby Wallace I bought on the same night from the same seller ( pictured last) It is in a slab, PSA 1(MK)……….I’ll keep you posted. This seller had a ton of T3’s that auctioned off that night, mostly raw like my Hal Chase. I’m hoping my Hal was the exception and not the rule. So back to square one….still need a T3 Hal Chase….hopefully I can find a real one. |
Interesting take.
Usually this is where you would post your grievances against the AG program, and how you can tell that it's real, and these dilettantes are getting between you and a deal for perfectly good cardboard. |

I did check the verification on PSA and it checked out there.

What was the described condition? Maybe it failed for that reason.

This was it , below item description the seller describes what he does and touts his business

That card is real, so they kicked it because it didn't match the condition in the listing. Probstein called in "Ungraded - Near mint or better" and that card definitely is not near mint or better. (There is also a tiny chance Probstein shipped the wrong card, but this is almost certainly for the stated condition.) If you still want it, I'd call Probstein and tell him you'll buy it direct minus the 10% in Ebay fees:

Well, that could be our answer.
If they actually thought that this piece is near mint or better, then whoever wrote the description seems like they need some lessons on grading raw cards. |
So based on my photos, you guys think it is real?
|
Looks good to me. It would be interesting to know if the other raw T3s were all kicked back, since they all seem to be listed as near mint or better.
|
I agree, but of a mess for the seller if that happened as I recall looking at quite of few of them and they were no where near mint
|
Just got the email….the Wallace was authenticated.

I reached out to Rick, we will see what happens…..what monumental hassle
You keep up with the bidding, lay out the cash , wait for it to get there , then it’s rejected most likely because of grading….you can’t make it up It will be interesting if mine was the only one , if not, he will have a butt load headed back his way |
The card is legitimate, as many have stated. Why not resubmit with your description stating the card is in 2.5 to 3 condition? PSA might look at things differently.

How do you contact them thru eBay, or do you go direct to PSA. I have reached out to the seller to buy it from him without the fees when he gets it back, but no response as of yet

100% legit

Likely a carry over error in the item specifics by the data entry person. I’ve never been a fan of listings that don’t also use the description section to clarify condition and other details.

I'm curious why, after reading the list of criteria for rejection, you thought fake card was the most likely reason.
