Is anybody attending? I'll be there at least Friday. Maybe Saturday but that depends on how much I get done Friday. I will be doing Disneyland with the family that weekend as well.
I'm assuming it will be largely modern. But hopefully a decent amount of vintage will be represented. |

Is this the Burbank card show in Burbank, or the one 90 minutes away in Anaheim?

I only hope they solve the parking problem from their last show (to the degree they can). I went last time, spent 90 minutes circling the blocks trying to find a parking space and then gave up. It looked like their show was competing with several other events at the convention center that added to the mess.
I'd love to attend this next one. |

I am supposed to be there but I am probably going to cancel. I messed up my ankle pretty badly and I am not sure I am physically capable of the move-in and move-out.

Will your ankle also prevent you (because flying cross country is hard when your ankle is mssed up) from flying to the East Coast for Fanatics Fest and the ECN?

Nope. The stuff I tore affects my lateral movement. I am worried about my ability to move the 200#+ of stuff I bring as well as my ability to stand behind a table all day.

Walked the show yesterday. Got there around 11:15. Was a little surprised at the ratio of modern to vintage (although I guess I shouldn't have been). I'd say 85% modern with a TON of pokemon. Don't think I've ever seen so much pokemon at one show. I got spoiled at the National seeing sooo much vintage.

Someone said the Burbank card show is like a West Coast National. Any truth to that rumor? I'd have a difficult time believing that.

Hey Jim,
I did not make it. My mom had to go into the Hospital, so I had to take a rain check. She'd doing well so I'm grateful. There will always be another show. |

I guess I was still under the spell of the National where vintage was overflowing like the melty cheese on a great NY slice

As others have said...maybe 15% vintage..AND...could easily get better prices even with shipping, tax, auction fees. Quite disappointing from a vintage perspective. Only reasonable dealer was Ash...who, for the hour I was at his table, 3 other dealers came and bought to resell same day (Friday).

That's why I do really well at Anaheim: lots of demand for vintage stuff. Of course since i am getting to be vintage stuff myself, I have to moderate my approach. I will be at Pasadena in two weeks; that's an easy show from a logistical perspective.

I was there yesterday from just after 12:00 noon to 5:00 P.M. My perspective is from someone who's collecting 1967, 1968, and 1969 Topps Baseball in lower condition.
My goal was to fill in both sets with stars and a few commons. From what I could find, I was able to obtain some missing commons and a 67 Mays in good condition with nice eye appeal for reasonable prices. I was also able to upgrade commons, particularly for 1968. There weren't too many ungraded cards that met my criteria- condition and budget. Several dealers maintained prices that went well-above eBay, i.e. 69 high number commons in ex-mint condition at $10-$12 each; 69 Earl Weaver in VG-EX condition at $30; an off-center 68 LaRussa also at $30 and finally a 69 Tug McGraw in VG-EX at $20. I can live with the ones that are already in my collection for the time being. There was some vintage, mostly slabbed, at fairly stiff prices. I almost decided to upgrade a few of my 71 Topps with slabbed cards rated at 6, but I didn't see anything that was that much better than what I already had raw and purchased for a lot less money, so have some working funds for the Pasadena show in two weeks. Visually, there were some very nice items to behold. One dealer had an array of Jackie Robinson material that stood out and pleasant to view. My friend who accompanied me was awed and spooked by a Sharon Tate autographed on a piece of paper, while I saw the Beatles infamous "butcher cover" upclose for the first time. Most of the tables were manned by dealers with slabs in all sports and fantasy-type cards. It reminded me of a typical local show at Frank & Sons which occurs three times a week monthly. I don't see the appeal and many of those collectors don't get older sports cards and I don't think that'll ever change. Happy collecting! Yes I've seen him at every show I've attended. Nice guy. Obviously loves Jackie. Think he must use is table to buy Jackie stuff and not so much sell Jackie stuff

![]() Got beat up on a couple of other nice cards, including 1 from Ash that he's had a year or better. Pretty much everything there you always see at these local shows. The few other dealers I know were most definitely buying from Ash too. He must give them better deals than he does me, ![]() ![]() ![]() That said, I really enjoyed the show. Got there @ 9:00AM, great on site parking. waited in the lobby after checking in and they started to let us in @9:45A. AC working great, beautiful bathrooms everywhere and internet working perfectly. I'll be back for a quick look around in February. Last edited by Fuddjcal; 08-25-2024 at 02:14 PM. |

Definitely less sports card dealers than last year's show. Vintage was less too. Most of the vintage was way overpriced. Like 20 to 40 percent above VCP. So I didn't even bother. There were dealers that were there last year from back east that didn't come back. Honestly, it could have easily been called the Burbank Pokémon Show.

![]() When a dealer shot down an even trade (2 gorgeous red man May/Williams with tabs) for a sliced off 59 bazooka Mays, I found these great dealers and table willing to trade and make an easy cash/trade deal. Also, now they have a new customer....The other guy, not so much. AND I have really started to enjoy cards with pin holes these days, that was a bonus! |
