I am possibly doing a purchase/trade for a Manny Ramirez ball that comes with a COA from Score Board. Was this company legit? Any thoughts on the ball?
Thanks a lot. ![]() ![]() |

Here is a post from Ken Goldin (the name on your certificate)

Scoreboard sold good autographs. They had athletes under contract and did many signings much like Steiner does today.
The problem is their simple paper COA has been copied and used by scammers, or a real Scoreboard COA has been swapped out with a bad item (this was before matching holograms were attached to the items.) I'm sure Ken Goldin can let you know if Ramirez was someone who signed for them. There is still the possibility a bad Ramirez has been married up with a real Scoreboard COA, but I am not qualified to comment on the signature itself.

Thanks for the replies. I emailed Ken, and got a response back in about 45 seconds. I think I am going to pass.

What Steve said is correct. Score Board and later Ken G. sold good autographs as far as I saw but the COA was often copied. I know Goldin's later autographs had his sticker on the item, so they're more easily verifiable.

Curious as to what kens response was regarding the ball. To me it looks correct in one of his styles from that period.

The only contract I can remember wih many ramirez was in 1991 for trading cards and did not include any autographs In addition, SB was out of business when MLB bals came out, so the story is a lie Regards Ken I was working out both a trade and throwing in some cash on this. When the guy posted the ball, with the story, someone commented that it's real. Manny's auto is just too "scribbly" for me to tell. I have no idea what one looks like. I am working on a set of autographed balls for my 500 HR collection, and just didnt want to take a chance of having a fake one in my 100% real collection....even if it was a good deal. |

Cooptown,
How far are you with the collection?

Not too far, actually:
Mays, Thome, Robinson, McGwire, Killebrew, Jackson, Schmidt, Williams, McCovey, Banks, Matthews, Scheffield, Murray. No one is ridiculously difficult, but the remaining guys are pretty pricey. I can get Thomas and Palmeiro for under a hundred combined. But then Ramirez, Bonds, and Aaron are going to be a bit rich. Plus, I want to add Mantle. |
