Bill, funny you ask. I have a bat from the what I think is the 1960s with Brooks Robinson on it and John’s Hopkins. Post #311 / 11 Dec 24 is wrong. The bat I showed was used by their college team. I mistakenly showed that one. I should have shown the Brooks games used bat as described. Pics of the Johns Hopkins and actual Brooksie game used bat below.

Day 349 – 14 December 2024
I recently found a few 1960s-1970s Bluefield Orioles Program/Scorecards. I do not really collect minor league programs unless related to Cal, Eddie or Brooks but had to have these given their condition and the artwork on the cover. They are all scored. The years include 1961, 1962, 1963, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1975 (Murray), 1976, 1977, and 1978 (Ripken…spelled Ripkin). They are all in great shape. Bluefield was affiliated with the Orioles from 1958-2010. They were the oldest continuous affiliated team with the same major league club. In September 2010, they began an affiliation with the Blue Jays. They were part of the Appalachian League willing championships in 1962, 63, 67, 70, 71, 82, 92, 96, 97, and 01. |

Maybe Bill knows the story behind it. I'm sure it wasn't the fact that someone saw a HOF career in Ripken's future. Probably ran out of one and switched to the other. I'm not sure which came first. Here's the B&W version. 1978 Bluefield Orioles #2 - Copy.jpg |

Day 350 – 15 December 2024
Another recent find is this very nice Sunpapers 1977 Sports Calendar. The calendar measures 13 in X 19.5 in, made of a hard cardboard with calendar pages that can be torn out. At first, I did not think a lot about it but then got to thinking, this was Eddie Murray’s first year and Brooks Robinson’s last year so I had to have it. Other than the hole at the top to hang it, the calendar is in great shape. I also thought to show my August 13, 1977 Ticket from Brooks last game. |

I was hoping you would know lol....I could surmise that the B&W ones came out later in the season only b/c my team signed, colored one (see above) has both Bob ("Robert") Bonner & Mike Boddicker signatures on it....Bonner was called up to Charlotte w/o ever getting into a game at Bluefield while Boddicker only pitched in a handful of games before moving up as well.. The B/W one also has player photos inside....There was a warehouse find of these programs in the late 80's and they really aren't that difficult to locate (though some people still put crazy money on them).. Bill, thanks for sharing the Program. I dabble in the Programs but not like Alan and assume you. I like finding unique ones. Can’t seem to find a few for Brooks I need from the Missions and a couple from Vancouver. The bat mistake…picked the Hopkins bat up a couple years ago. Was never sure about the year but could not PSA up. In great shape. Would be better if from my school or daughters but was a patient at Hopkins as a small boy so there you go. Funny I made that mistake. Old age I guess. Yours is really cool. Thanks for sharing.

I would tend to agree. I think it's probably the reverse of using left over programs from one year, the next season. Bluefield probably ran out of color programs and did a quick B&W scorecard for the end of the season. I've found with the warehouse find of the B&W Bluefield scorecards, they're actually easier to find than the color programs. The Rochester Red Wings ended up doing something similar in 1971. 1971 Rochester Red Wings #1.jpg 1971 Rochester Red Wings #2.jpg |

Another recent find is my 1972 Team Issued Brooks Robinson and Jim Palmer 5 in X 7 in photos. I purchased about 50 different photos at a card show, which included a bunch of Brooks photos. At first I did not recognize it but recalled the 1972 checklist Alan Strout gave me. I looked closely at the pose, size and font and realized I checked off another Brooks photo I was missing. |

I just saw where Len Johnston passed away at 95 years old. Len was in the Orioles minor system for 43 years, serving as a manager, coach and administrator. He spent 2 years managing the Miami Orioles and one year with the Hagerstown Suns. The majority of his tenure with the Orioles was spent as a coach with the Bluefield Orioles (Appalachian League) team in Bluefield, WV.
For many years, I would see Len at the Orioles minor league camp during spring training. He was also great to talk with and signed this team issued photo for me. He was quite surprised that one even existed. Len Johnston 8x10 Photo Johnston, Len 1.jpg Last edited by BaltOrioles; 12-16-2024 at 03:03 PM. |

Day 352 – 17 December 2024
For the next three days I will show you my PSA Graded 1967 and 1968 Coca Cola Soda Caps with the various variations, which Brooks Robinson appeared on. Before I discuss what I have on hand, some background. The Coca Cola Soda Caps come in various flavors or sizes, such as Coca Cola, King Size Coca Cola, West Virginia Tax Mil, Sprite, King Size Sprite, Tab, Fresca, Root Beer Fanta, Orange Fanta, and Grape Fanta. There are two different years for the Team Coca Cola Bottle Caps that is distinguishable by the position appearing or not appearing to the right of the face. Coca Cola had Bobble Caps for many of the players for each team. The Oriole Players are identified by an “O” followed by a number to the left of the face. With Brooks Robinson, he was #10 in the set preceded by an O (i.e., O10). If the position appears at the right of the face, that is a 1967/68 Coca Cola Cap. Technically, I believe the Coca Cola Caps were produced in 1967 but PSA grades them as 1967/68. If no position to the right of the face, the Cap is a 1968. This was only true for the Team Coca Cola Caps. You know it is 1967 when you see #O10 with position / “IF” for Brooks. In 1968, a cap was produced for the teams without the position to the right. PSA often times marks the 1967 and 1968 wrong. If you are confused, it gets worse. You also have the All Star Set with a number to the left of the face and a Star to the right of the face. There were 35 different caps from Coca Cola, Tab or Fresca. Brooks Robinson is #3. The other variation is the AL and NL All Star Set, which would have “A” for American League and “N” for National League. With this set, Brooks Robinson is A21. I believe to have all the variations of Caps you would need over 500. I will not begin to describe the regional caps outside of what I have for Brooks Robinson such as the WV version. Today, I will show you the 1967/68 Brooks Robinson from the from the All Star Set depicted with the number “3.” In the picture provided, you will see a Fanta Orange, Fanta Root Beer, Coca Cola WV, Coca Cola, Sprite, Tab WV, Tab, Tab and Fresca. These are all part of my PSA Master Set except the Coca Cola WV Bottle Cap; I have not added it yet. The WV Tab and WV Coca Cola Cap is impossible to find and the Fanta Versions are hard to find, too. I Found a near set of the West Virginia Bottle Caps (minus Mantle and someone Clemente) including two of Brooks I bought from a guy for $2,500 and had the HoF’ers graded and made a profit of $5,000. Based on what I learned from a few big dealers, I sold the big name players from $500-$800 each. I sold them with no real negotiation. My Brooks would likely fetch $600-$800. Selling is not my thing but to get the two WV Brooks caps, I had to do it!!! |

Day 353 – 18 December 2024
Today I will show you the Orioles Team Brooks Robinson Bottle Cap. It is marked as #010 with the position right of the face from 1967/68 and the version without the position right of the face from 1968. Here, you will see Coca Cola, Coca Cola King Size, Fanta Orange, Fanta Root Beer, Fanta Grape, Sprite, Fresca, Sprite and Tab. As mentioned yesterday, several are marked incorrectly based on the year (with or without the position to the right of the face). I have a 7 of them in my PSA Master Set marked wrong and at some point, I will get them relabeled. All of these are part of my PSA Master Set. Some, once the label is corrected, will be doubles. |

My last day with the Coca Cola Soda Caps. Today is the American League or National League All Star set. You know it is the AL or NL All Star Set based on the Star to the Right of the Face and the Number preceded by a “A.” Brooks was on the American League version. Here, Brooks Robinson is number is A21. I am showing you a Sprite, Tab, Fresca, King Size Coca Cola and Coca Cola. I have a Gold Version PSA does not recognize (bottom right); I believe these came from the Philadelphia, PA area. All of these minus the “gold” version are part of my PSA Master Set. I am showing you a picture of all of my PSA Graded Brooks Robinson Coca Cola Bottle Caps in one larger picture. In the Brooks PSA Master Set, there are 22 different bottle caps and 13 of the ones I am showing you are highest graded. Last edited by Chstrite; 12-19-2024 at 04:45 AM. Reason: Forgot title |

Day 355 – 20 December 2024
Today, I would like to show you some of my post cards featuring Brooks Robinson. Today’s Post Cards will be ungraded. I will show you more tomorrow, but graded. At the top left, you will see my 1957-1959 Brooks post cards looking to the left and right. These are variations. I am missing the 1958-60, 1961, 1961-64, and 1962 Post Cards. I have some doubles if anyone has any of the missing ones to trade or sell. Would love to find them. Next you will see the 1963, 1964, 1965, 1967-69 (two variations). Moving to the next row or page you will see the 1969 borderless colored post card, 1970, 1971 (font centered), 1972 (font close to top), 1973/74, 1975, 1976, 1977 (dark), 1977 (light), 1977, 1987, and 1947-66 Exhibit Stat Back. Next row or page you will see the 1950-80 J.D. McCarthey and an assortment of other post cards, both newer and older ones. |

Day 356 - 21 December 2024
Today, I am showing you my graded post cards. Unfortunately, PSA will not accept all of the post cards as part of the Master Set. I have tried but have fallen short with PSA to add more. You will also notice several post cards are graded incorrectly. One of my rarer post cards is at the top left PSA Authentic / Auto PSA 10 circa 1960 Don Wingfield featuring Brooks Robinson. This post card is addressed on the back by Brooks. This is part of the PSA Master and the only one graded. The next is the 1957-59 looking left post card. This one is not part of the Master. You then see the two Exhibit Post Cards Graded as PSA 8s (blank back and stats back). Next is the 1971 PSA 6 graded incorrectly (should be a 1972), which is part of the Master. Then, you will see a 1971 PSA 8 graded incorrectly (should be a 1972), which again, is part of the Master. Next you will see a PSA Authentic Signature from 1973/74 not part of the Master. Next, you will see a 1972 PSA 6 incorrectly graded as a 1973, which is part of the Master. Next row, you will see the 1969 borderless post card graded as PSA Authentic Signature, which is not part of the Master. The 1976 Post Card is a PSA 10, 1977 Post Card PSA 10 Light Background / PSA 10 Dark Background are all part of the Master. The 1979 Coral – Lee and bottom Post Cards are not part of the Master. |

Day 257 – 22 December 2024
Today I am showing you some more Brooks Robinson photos. These Brooks Robinson photos are part of the Bethlehem Steele Family Nights. I am not exactly sure what years the Orioles handed out photos with the Bethlehem Steele Family nights. I think the first night was 1965, but not exactly sure. I believe the last year was 1970. I am sure my fellow fans will make corrections. The Photos come in a small booklet with a nice cover and player photos with details on the back about Bethlehem Steele. Assuming 1965 was the first year, I am assuming the Brooks Robinson Photo I have marked as 1965 (top Photo, far left) is from 1965. The rest of the photos I am certain of given I have a booklet to reference. Many of the photos are similar in appearance; the difference is on the back with the Bethlehem Steele Company facts. You will see photos from 1965 – 1970, front and back with the year marked. 1970 had two Brooks Robinson photos (a head shot and action photo). You next see my photo booklets between 1966 – 1970. Below the booklets are two of my scorecards from 1967 – 1968. If anyone has a extra 1965 booklet, let me know. I am missing a loose 1966 and 1967 photo. I have several loose photos for trade (1968 and 1969) and a couple extra booklets to trade (1969 and 1970). Below is a 1967 and 1968 score card from the Bethlehem Steel Nights. I am missing the scorecards from 1965, 1966, 1969 and 1970, too. |

Day 358 – 23 December 2024
Today I am showing the different coins in the Brooks Robinson PSA Master Set. Brooks first coin is the 1962 Shirriff Coin (distributed in Canada within Potato Chips; 221 different coins) and 1962 Salada Junket Coin (265 coins/221 players distributed in packages of Salada Tea and Junket Pudding Mix). In 1963, he appeared on the 1963 Salada Junket Coin (63 all stars or top players distributed in packages of Salada Tea and Junket Pudding Mix). In 1964, Topps produced the first of three metal coins. In 1964, Brooks appeared on the Regular Coin (120 coins) and All Star Coin (44 All Star Coins); my PSA 9 is highest graded. In 1971, Brooks appeared in a 153 player coin set with Topps distributed in the Topps Wax Pack. In 1965, he appeared on the Old London Coin (PSA 9, Highest Graded), which included 40 different players distributed in Old London Snacks. All of my coins are PSA 9 minus the 1971, which is a PSA 8. I would love to find a PSA 9 1971 PSA. Coins provided in picture. |

Hi, Alan. I was not sure about a 1965 Booklet. Assumed there was one. Look at the back of the one I suggested was 1965. It is different than the others so assumed it was 1965. Compared to my booklets and assumed this one belonged to the 1965 booklet. I may have it all wrong.

Merry Christmas! Can’t believe Christmas has arrived. Today, in honor of my favorite holiday, I thought I would share some of my Baltimore Orioles Christmas Cards. The first one I had framed. I am not exactly sure what year it is but it is early 1960s. It references “Steve winning 20 games,” which he did in 1963 so I put this one as 1963. It is a letter to Santa. I believe this is Steve Barber (Orioles first 20 game winner). The next framed card has the Oriole bird beat up. This one is early 1960s, too. I should have taken a photo of the inside. I also had my “It can be done in ’61” Christmas card framed. I guess this one is 1961. I have a couple others from the 1960s unframed (A miracle on 33rd Street ‘Almost’ from 1960 and a1969 Photo version. Included are a few others from the 1970s – 2000s. I need to do a better job tracking these with a checklist. Always looking for more. Please show your cards. Merry Christmas!!!🎁🎄 |

Brooks Robinson and Johnny Unitas are on the box cover. Not sure about the basketball player and race care people. The radio kit includes the items needed to put it together and the instructions. Day 362 – 27December 2024
I meant to share these earlier but today I am showing you two items from what I believe is the early 1970s. First, I have a pair of game worn pants from 1970 season worn by who I think is Jim Frey, the former Orioles hitting coach (1970-1979); he later had success with the KC Royals and Chicago Cubs as manager. If you look closely in the waistline, you see number 41 and a F, which was Frey’s number and believe his first initial last name. The bright orange pants are from 1970 when we had our four 20-game winners and won the World Series. The size is 34. Not sure what the 73 M16 means. I really like the Brooks Robinson Sporting Goods Label. I am not sure the belt is part of the uniform. Next, I have what I understand as a prototype uniform that belonged to Brooks Robinson. The pants are of a salmon color. Size 36 with a lable that says 5 15 then hand written has PT 65. I assume the 5 is for Brooks and PT is prototype. They are signed by Brooks Robinson. I am sure someone on here can comment about both sets of pants. Very interested in the details on the prototype colored pants. |

The American League included 12 players including Brooks. The National League included 12 players. The Montreal Expos had 12 players, too. The Expos include the great Ken Singleton. The set comes with a checklist and a sleeve. The cards are in a post card format measuring 3.5 X 5.5 printed in Canada with a blank back, color player photo with players name in lower white border. The card included a facsimile auto. The set includes plenty of HoF’ers (Brooks, Frank Robinson, Aaron, Bench, Clemente, Marichal, Mays, McCovey, Rose, Seaver, Stargell, Jackson, Kaline, and Killebrew. Day 366 – 31 December 2024 - My Last Post for 2024!!!
Can you believe this is day 366? Writing about something every day for 2024 about the Baltimore Orioles and my favorite player, Brooks Robinson has been a lot of fun. It has also been a lot of work and a little dedication. I enjoyed the research and learning more about the Orioles and Brooksie. I made a few mistakes that were pointed out but that is to be expected I guess. During the year, I learned a lot from many of you and made some new virtual friends and found some new items. I am sure I will miss doing this daily but promise to keep posting…I hope that is ok. Anyway, on this last day, I decided to show you my Brooks Robinson PSA Master Set since I have referenced it a “few times.” This set has been my passion for many years and I am proud to say it is 100% complete but remains #2. The #1 set is based on quality. My set has a quality score of 7.27 and the #1 set has a quality score of 8.04. The #1 set is missing at least 12 items. The set includes 308 mandatory items and about 10 optional items. The different items include baseball cards, pins, bottle caps, boxes, panels, discs, stamps, photos, test issues, items from different countries (Venezuela, Canada, and Japan), prints, post cards, discs, matches, paper cut outs, stickers, tattoos, rub offs, coins, and lids. The baseball cards dominate the set (about 175 items from different manufactures {Topps, Fleer, Leaf, Bazooka, etc.). My set includes about 135 items that are either highest graded or tied for highest graded. A few of my items are 1 of 1, meaning they are very rare and the only one graded. Some of the items range in cost from $10 to over $10,000. Some of the items could be worth more based on how rare they are and you simply can’t find them. I arranged the photos by size and years. You will notice the cards at the top, which are smaller from 1957 to 1978. The cards are from packs of baseball cards, hand cut from boxes or panels, and inserts to Topps packs. You then see the coins and pins followed by the Coca Cola Bottle Caps (Coke, Sprite, Fanta {Orange, Grape, Root Beer}, Tab, and Coca Cola King Size, and West Virginia Coca Cola. You then see some medium sized items followed by photos and larger sized items. The larger items are photos, box panels, prints, and boxes. I did a video and tried to go item by item. I watched it several times and each time I see / hear errors. Oh, well, I am not a film star or director. Enjoy the post and show us your items. Here is the link to my video: https://youtu.be/NSAapT2XFCk?si=i899lCwtmUmQVB_R It has been a pleasure and thanks for reading and commenting on my posts during the year. See you in the new year. |

Thanks, Mark. Enjoyed yours a few years ago. Not sure what I will do tomorrow when I panic thinking I missed a post. Still have a few things to share. It was fun.

Not sure if related to the Orioles but found this “BALTIMORE” vanity plate recently (see bottom right area of pic). I am pretty sure it is from the 1950s or 1960s. It is bright orange with black raised letters. Measures 13.25 x 6.25 inches. Includes some rust and wear. Compliments my mother plates.

Found these in some stuff I had put away for a rainy day to sort through. Looking for feedback.
Paper banquet program to say farewell to Doug DeCinces. No date included but assume it is around 1981 or 1982. Never seen before. He played last game I 1981 but traded January 1982. Would they send him off like this or was it later when he retired? Next is a 1979 Unsung hero awards banquet at Hunt Valley Inn in Baltimore. Chuck Thompson MC’ed and Rich Dauer was guest speaker. Ice pic, bio and signature of Dauer. Finally, a 1973 5th World Series folder but looks like what would have been a program or score card. It has no real content to it. Is it a prototype in anticipation of the Orioles beating the Athletics? |

Charlie, As a program guy, I absolutely love the 1973 World Series folder. If that was going to be the 1973 World Series program, it's the best O's cover I've seen. I sure wish they had won and printed programs. Very cool items. |

I suppose since it was hastily put together, Brooks was unable to attend...Certainly a neat item that I've never seen. |

Thanks, Bill. Sounds about right. Seems like when you are traded you would go without a farewell. It was part of some items I got from Ted Patterson collection.

I'm sure most of you have heard by now about the passing of LHP Brian Matusz , who was the Orioles first round pick back in 2008 (4th overall) and pitched with them from 2010-2016......
In 2011 my daughter won a contest and was invited to watch BP from the field...She was lucky enough to have her picture taken with Brian..... RIP |
