I finally was able to pair these guys up....
I was able to find a signed Johnny Vander Meer rookie card to match up with the signed Ernie Lombardi card that I bought a few months back on eBay. The Vandy card was in a PSA slab, but I played "Free Willie" this evening and cracked it open so that I can enjoy it in my collection. Another PSA slab bites the dust...
These guys were battery mates in Vandy's back to back no-hitters in 1938. I get bonus points for finding a Vandy signed card that was signed on the right side of the card, which creates perfect balance for a display that I am working on. I know Steiner generally gets a bad rap for being super greedy and that argument is warranted...but if you watch their sales there are some great finds...extremely happy with adding this very old living HOF'er to my collection for 19.99
|
