May Autograph Pick-Ups
1 Attachment(s)
Let's see those new autograph pick-ups!
Here's mine, it's of Walter T Avery who played in what's known as the very first organized baseball game ever played. |
Nice pickup HOF. I've been wanting one of those for awhile but keep getting outbid. I hope to get one sometime later this year.

That would be cool. If they still have one at the end of the year maybe you can hook me up. Right now all my money is going in to framing before my wife decides to put something else on the walls. :D
|
Haha sounds good, I'll let you know. PM what you're willing to do for one.

Not sports related (obviously) but I had to share this amazing find. :D
I was at the last table in the last row at an antique fair today in upstate NY and noticed the seller had a small stack of signed photos scattered on a table. Most were personalized "to Len." It was an assortment of what appeared to be through the mail signatures. Some were good... there were some secretarials in there as well. I passed on a Sinatra and Gleason because I presumed they were secretarial. I really wish I knew for sure because it would have been a steal if they were good. He had a real Jimmy Stewart that was such a mess I passed on it, even though it was $30. A real DiMaggio signed card ($60) I passed on. At the bottom of the stack, I found this gem for $30. 100% real. For those who may not know, Sir Alec Guinness was reluctant to sign Star Wars poses and they are uncommon and in high demand. If the seller did his homework, he would have known he could have gotten $500 for this through a decent auction house. :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...tarWarsSP2.jpg |
just wondering why you would pass up a real DiMaggio at $60?

Jim Tobin signed 1941 Boston Braves snapshot
1 Attachment(s)
I recently purchased this 1941 signed snapshot of Boston Braves no-hit pitcher Jim Tobin from net54's own Lance Fittro (thecatspajamas on eBay).
Tobin's signature is pretty challenging to find on any medium, but I was very happy to add this postcard sized signed snapshot to my no-hit signature collection. In addition to Jim Tobin pitching a no-hitter on 4/27/44, he is also known as one of the better HR hitting pitchers of all time. He homered in his no-hit game in 1944 (quite a game, eh?). In 1942 Tobin hit 3 homers in one game on May 13, 1942. Tobin also hit a pinch hit two-run homer the previous day, giving him 4 homers in 5 at bats. Tobin is also credited with being one of the few pitchers to clout a game winning walk-off HR (8/12/45). |

I finally was able to pair these guys up....
1 Attachment(s)
I was able to find a signed Johnny Vander Meer rookie card to match up with the signed Ernie Lombardi card that I bought a few months back on eBay. The Vandy card was in a PSA slab, but I played "Free Willie" this evening and cracked it open so that I can enjoy it in my collection. Another PSA slab bites the dust...
These guys were battery mates in Vandy's back to back no-hitters in 1938. I get bonus points for finding a Vandy signed card that was signed on the right side of the card, which creates perfect balance for a display that I am working on. As you can see, Lombardi signed the left side of his card. |
Awesome pick up Scott! Would love to get that Lombardi :P. Can't wait to see the display
|
Nice pickup Scott. Really nice looking cards!
|
Scott,
You hit a home run with that score! Congrats! |
Thanks for the compliments all. I'm glad you like them! :)

I know Steiner generally gets a bad rap for being super greedy and that argument is warranted...but if you watch their sales there are some great finds...extremely happy with adding this very old living HOF'er to my collection for 19.99

Very happy to add a George Washington Mountain Road signed lottery ticket. I believe there is approximately 20-30 known. Signature on this one is weak, but better in person than the scans indicate.

Elmer Valo - Signed Index Card
Jim Hughes - Signed Index Card George Shuba - Signed Check |
Thanks for the kind words guys.
Richard - I would love to get a nice bold Washington someday (I don't want a land grant or commission, however), but I really wanted one of the lottery tickets. It's been a while since I saw one come up for sale, and it sold well out of my budget anyway. So, this one was perfect as it's the ticket I wanted, and the fading kept the price in an affordable range for an authentic Washington signature. |
First off. Jon that is a great Washington. Congrats on an awesome pickup.
Now on to my own recent addition. I was able to this signed 1934 Goudey of Red Rolfe. He is number 72/96 that I now own. This the first in the past year. They are coming slowly, but still coming nonetheless. Please contact me if you have any that you are interested in selling/trading. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...94Rolfe002.jpg Best, Mark |
Nice pickup Mark, nice strong sig. Hopefully you can find a few more this year.
|
LOVE the Rolfe, Mark. What an underrated player he was...

I have Jefferson+Madison land grant, Madison+Monroe land grant, JQ Adams land grant, Jackson land grant, Lincoln on a military appt. , TR Wh House card, FDR photo, and 3 JFK's an AP with his brothers, Wh House letter and congressional letter. Hope to get lucky with Washington and Adams at some point. I only collect the Presidents I think were good ones :). I guess maybe I should add Wilson too. A woman contacted me a while back via e mail, had the Jefferson and a Madison. I knew immediately where on my wall that Jeff would go :). |

Arrived today via a trade with a fellow board member. The ironic thing is today would have been Earl’s 110th Birthday.

I always get SGC to grade my signed cards if I think they're potential 30s or higher. I just prefer it that way. I had this card crossed over from PSA/DNA to SGC/JSA yesterday. Just looks better in an SGC holder. But I told them not to grade the card because that's a solid 10/Poor/1. |

New Addition
For Christmas, my wife got my an autograph at an Ali signing. It finally happened this past week.
This is a 1966 Sport Magazine Annual. Some already know, but I collect Sport Magazines and get them signed. It was expensive, but is real. It came with a PSA cert through their "in the presence" program. I had them put the sticker on the backside of the cover. It certainly appears that he is pretty close to not signing at all anymore. Would I do it again...Yes. Although I would probably not waited so long to get it done. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...6613Annual.jpg BTW. Here is a link to the entire Sport Magazine collection. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v2...rt%20Magazine/ |
