1941 game used ball
This Harridge baseball was fouled off by Al Brancato of the Athletics on July 10, 1941. Further research shows that the opposing pitcher in that game was Bob Feller. He went the distance for his 99th career win. He won his 100th on his next start 4 days later.

Jimmy, just checked in on this thread and I'm glad you like the Bill Dickey piece.
I had no room to display it and having it in a closet wasn't right so I'm glad its now in good hands. Took me half the night to find a proper box and to package it securely for its coast to coast travel & happy it reached you unharmed.

estate auction pickups
Busy day at the estate auction game, as My dad and I picked up a decent group of pennants, and a few early football and baseball relics. In the group was a red and blue stitch baseball and a smaller sized red stitched baseball. The smaller one is probably just about a 1/2 inch less in diameter than the other ball. Has anyone seen a smaller ball like this one? Did they make smaller sized balls for kids in the 1910 to 1920 time period? I know newer little league balls are the same size as regular balls, and it doesn't make sense to make them smaller for kids as they'd be harder to hit anyway. Could this be an earlier 19th century example? Any advice would be appreciated. The football pieces included a Wright and Ditson dog ear, reach shoulder pads, and an unmarked football.
Nice helmet by the way Kevin, any makers mark visible?

I would guess 1915 to 1920 as far as age, and I think you made a good buy. I think value would be in the $250 to $350 range without a maker.

I would say that's much better than a "decent group of pennants" you have there Keith. I would be willing to wager that the Cincinnati pennant is a particularly scarce design. And the Dodgers pennant is a gem as well. That version always seem to bring a premium price. Really nice group. Great find!

Thanks Brock,
I haven't seen the Cincinatti pennant before (not that I track Reds pennants that much), and didn't see it listed in Mike Egner's guide, so was hoping it could be a rarer one.

I love it when I pick something up and it's even better than I thought...I won this 1958 Western League Register (basically a media guide). I had no idea until I got it that it belonged to the General Manager of the Lincoln team -Dick Wagner. Cincinnati fans may know who he was as he held that same position with the Big Red Machine of the 1970s. His name is on the front cover...can it be considered an autograph? As an aside Wagner was the youngest GM in the history of professional baseball..he was only 19 years old when he was GM of the Thomasville club of the Georgia-Florida League in 1947.

Nice collection of pennants from the 40s and 50s. The Reds(legs) pennant is a pretty rare one made by Keezer Mfg., and might even be stamped as such on the back. Same goes for the Braves pennant in your batch. These are identifiable by their very thick tassels, two color print, and simple-yet-elegant designs. (The STL Browns pennant from this "series" is on my personal want list.)

Jimmy, where do you think I got these from! I went down to Dallas to visit my wife who was there for work, went to the live auction, and came home with a much lighter wallet. God bless the wife, she came with me to the auction and was the one pushing me to bid. Anyway, here are some more scans . . . Dickey, Kelly, Hubbell, Schacht, Altrock, Wambsganns, Snodgrass and Rawlings (what a sig)
