Hey
Just a heads up to remind you that our big auction is closing tomorrow night Initial bids must be in by 9pm and it should go fairly late (lets hope not too late!) There is some pretty great stuff in there and some pretty great deals too Good luck in the auction and thanks for listening Sincerely Josh Evans Chairman Lelands.com Go to www.lelands.com to bid |

The photo below left (lot 849) - labeled as Miller Huggins (current bid is $270) is actually Al Bridwell. The exact photo was used in the 1906 Spalding Guide's 1905 Cin. team headshot composite where it was correctly labeled as Bridwell, below center. Also note the similarity to Bridwell's Colgan chip, below right.

Item 988 is also interesting. Unidentified are Hap Felsch (far right) and defense atty William Fallon, just left of Felsch.
Item 986 labeled Felsch and Riseberg - Riseberg is really Cicotte. Last edited by bmarlowe1; 12-03-2009 at 06:40 PM. |

This is my favorite lot. On so many levels. Poor taste combined with a misleading description -- it's got everything!

WOW!! $3500 & counting for a drain cover! Wish I had the other 5 so I could say I have a better chance of it being the right one!
I agree Jeff--very ambiguous listing at best!

What's next I wonder? The baseball that killed Ray Chapman? The one that struck Herb Score, or Tony Conigliaro? Juan Marichal's bat? Ray Fosse's blood-splattered uniform?

No, the baseball that may have killed Ray Chapman, the one that may have struck Herb Score, or Tony Conigliaro, the bat that may have been Juan Marichal's and possibly Ray Fosse's uniform.

License plate from the 70s? "Early" in DiMag's signing career? Too bad the red, white and blue NY license plate didn't come into being until 1986! Also from the description: "Signed early in his signing career as he would never have signed it later." --- So, since it has now been established that the plate was not signed until later in DiMag's "signing career" can we presume it is a fake?

Check out Lot 1405. His write up could have been worse "not sure what to get the tough to shop for white supremasist on your Christamas list who has everything, here is the perfect idea" I guess the disclaimer is supposed to make it better |

Harsh group of people on here, wow. That said, Josh Evans doesn't always exude class in his dealings, for sure.
If you haven't read the excellent book "Miracle Ball" bout Thomsons HR ball, there's some interesting stuff in there about Lelands part in a news story on the ball. He does have some great stuff in his auction too. It's all about the money, just that sometimes people are blinded by it, and their judgement is clouded. |

I agree with Mark here. I don't expect Josh to be anything but a vulgar capitalist -- that's kind of expected with the territory. It's the outright deceptions in his descriptions which are so troubling. Why is it so easy for these guys to lie publicly? I'm still trying to imagine what he was thinking when he wrote that a Cobb check written out to and endorsed by "The Family" was Cobb's actual family. Did Cobb's family incorporate itself under the name "The Family" in order to cash his checks?

My catalog just arrived today. Not enough time to read it and bid. That's a shame because that Klan outfit would have looked great under 1600 feet of water in the middle of Lake Tahoe.

"Aweful" has just become the accepted spelling of that word.
And Anthony- "definately" is used on the board all the time. That word is nearly always spelled incorrectly. But the most common error of all, without question, is the misuse of "its" and "it's". Last edited by barrysloate; 12-04-2009 at 05:32 PM. |

Yes - exactly. That's why I am so glad to see the response on this thread. I will shortly post a long list of errata for the current Legendary photo auction - including stuff that's wrong that they know is wrong (becasue I told them face to face) and won't change. |

If you dont want to buy a card of a racist than you better just not buy any card of anyone from before WW2 because on some level, they all were racist because it was accepted in their society. I am not saying it was right or that they were good people, just that it was the norm 100 years ago and not the exception.

Late edit: - let me revise the above slightly - back in April, Legendary was responsive to one of my posts and corrected errors on some Hermes Ice Cream pin-backs. But recently they had been unresponsive. Last edited by bmarlowe1; 12-05-2009 at 12:29 AM. |

I can't believe that it's finally over, 5:20am EST must be a new all-time record!
I went to bed at 10:30pm EST got almost a full night's sleep, woke up at about 4:15am EST to check the status of my bid, saw that I was outbid but the auction appeared to still be active. Thus, I placed one more bid at 4:30am and ended up winning the lot, Willie Wells Negro League photo. |
