Exactly what I did. I have a desk lamp with a black light from Lowe's. Probably cost me $5.

If anyone's interested I have an in print book that is a beginner's guide to using forensic light. It includes the black light in the online guide, but also covers shortwave ultraviolet light, infrared light and visible light techniques. The books is for total beginners, and shows how the light is used in everything from collecting to art to detective work to currency authentication. I think kids would enjoy doing the stuff as much as adults.
