Can anyone help me out here? As of this posting, I'm the high bidder on this PSA Ruth card, but I received an email from someone indicating that the card in the slab is a reprint. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. |

for whatever it's worth, the certification number in the picture matches the psa database. this of course only guarantees it's not a doctored scan. |

I wonder if the person that contacted you is an underbidder or someone who is thinking about bidding on the item. |

It's not another current bidder, unless he's using a separate usernames for emailing and bidding, but I guess it could be someone with a snipe set up. |

I guess it could be someone with a legitimate Ruth card in a slab... |

Below is the full text of the email I received. I probably should have posted this initially. |

I've seen a few Ruth 149's with the same staining on them on Ebay over the past year. Based on that, the slabbed ruth is very suspicious to me. |

Interesting. Any chance this particular staining pattern is a printing problem or some other factory flaw that appears on many of the authentic #149s, or should I conclude that the current seller stole the image from the previous listing and did a little Photoshop work? |

Here's another one that's an "inn find", from a seller with zero feedback. I don't collect many Goudey's, but my first instinct is to stay away from these "stained" 149's. |

check his other items for sale and his feedback (the items, not the actual feedback). |

Front looks NO GOOD to me, though if it is slabbed, it is as good as real because idiots buying slabbed cards will believe it! |

This was a forgery, not a reprint - the forgeries were made from a scan of a real card, which is why most have the same stain pattern. Gath Feldman was selling them and probably made them himself. I was too cheap to shell out the $70 or so it would have cost to get one in my hands. Garth sold them as copies, emphasizing that no one could tell them from the real thing. As predicted, they are slowly finding their way back into the market as "real". This guy, or whoever he bought it from, probably got the serial number from a real ebay auction and made a fake label that looked "good" enough in a fuzzy digital picture. |

Thanks everyone, especially Scott. I have received an email of the item's cancellation, and I shall be a bit more careful in the future. |
