I agree with all of the comments here as I see both sides to be honest. however after selling off a bunch of stuff in my collection, (8x10's, balls, bats, etc) I am thoroughly convinced that the only thing that holds true value long term are signed hof topps rookie cards (based solely off of my recent sales on ebay).

"True value" is in the eyes of the beholder. Some topps rookies- Palmer, Jenkins and many of the recent guys are SO plentiful I do not see them appreciating. I am a collector, not an investor but pre topps do much better that post 1960 rookies with maybe the exception of Stargell
