Default eBay's Lack of Concern

We have all seen eBay's lack of concern with fake baseball cards. Unfortunately it goes further. Be careful with ANYTHING old and potentially valuable on eBay. Example: not only do I collect baseball cards, but also old railroad paper. The Florida East Coast Railway built an incredible railroad feat of engineering to Key West, called the Over-Sea Railroad or Key West Extension which was wrecked by the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. Anything associated with that is very desirable and valuable. Once built, and up until 1935, the railroad's corporate logo reflected their pride, with a train crossing the Long Key Viaduct. After the hurricane ruined the Over-Sea railroad down the Keys, the FEC Railway changed their logo to a sunset with palm trees in 1936. This item now for sale is dated 1927, and most definitely fake:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/306297574452

The correct logo in use in 1927 is shown below. I have reported this item 3 times, and contacted the seller, with NOTHING being done.

Be very careful with eBay.

In the description he uses the scammers favorite disclaimer…… “Estate Sale Find……. Not Authenticated”. Almost always means “I know it’s probably a fake so good luck suckers!”

"We looked at the item in question, and find that it does not violate our policies."

So, fake away, boys and girls. eBay doesn't give a hoot in Hell.

It’s the point, mister. Can't you see it's only an example? People prattle on and on about everything, even if the category is supposed to be Pre-War cards, and no one gets their panties twisted. Just felt compelled to single me out to make yourself look wonderful, did you?

I agree it seems like more and more fake items are popping up in other categories.

eBay flat out does not care, and even when confronted with facts isn't going to do anything to stop it.

They implemented the authenticity guarantee program. While not perfect, I would guess it prevented plenty of fake items from being listed. What's funny is people seem to complain about it just as much as they complain about reporting individual items that nothing is done about.

Dammit, we reserve the right to complain about all of it. Because pissing everyone off is easy, or at least eBay makes it look easy.

I'm tired. I'm finished with bottom feeder, low life, pieces of vile, worthless troll trash such as you, who exist solely to get a response. Have a nice life. I'm done with you. Feel free to post some witty last word. But anything further from you on any other threads following any post I make, and I will refer you to Leon, and let the chips fall where they may.

Edit: Who's laughing now?

Agreed. Seems like eBay took a huge step to weed out fake cards, but then it gets ripped on for doing just that.

Agree. Ebay tries.

What I don't understand is how some people expect Ebay to be experts on all things, from obscure baseball cards and memorabilia, to 100 year old railroad memorabilia, etc., etc. The range and scope of things offered and sold on Ebay would require a staff of a few thousand specialized experts, if they tried to verify authenticity on every single thing.

Maybe next time you’ll keep your two cents to yourself, especially commenting on stuff completely out of your league.

And I’m still laughing.

I got that canned response just this weekend. Apparently copyright and trademark infringement do not violate eBay policies.

Why are there so many old ladies on this site? Lighten up girls. Take a nap. Drink some Ensure. It's a hobby. It's supposed to be fun. If you don't like the topic, go read another.

Good thread by the way. Ebay doesn't give a s*** as long as they get their cut and retain plausible deniability.

Always remember that Ebay is the company that put a fake Peyton Manning football jersey on the cover of their Christmas catalog.
