Continuing with 19th Century numbers......

In 1899, Ed Delahanty drove in 137 runs to lead the National League (NL). Also, he led the NL with a .410 BA and 238 hits.
This was his 12th year in the Major Leagues, and his performance would improve every year as he aged. This is remarkable
as only a few Baseball players have achieved this feat. An example is Babe Ruth, whose performance improved as he aged.

Default 138 - a FAUX record

138 is the record set by Ty Cobb for the most times caught stealing at the conclusion of the 1922 season.

However caught stealing was not an official stat early in his career and his record of 138 includes 11 seasons when he stole bases but was never caught.

He was fleet afoot but not that fast.

On July 18th, 1921, Babe Ruth hit the 139rd home run of his career. This moved Babe Ruth in front of Roger Connor as the all-time MLB home run leader. As mentioned above, Connor's home run total was thought to be 131, then 136, until 138 was figured to be the correct number in the 70s, so no one knew at the time that he had broken the record on this day.

Hi Chad

Thanks for clarifying Roger Connor's total HR number.

The last time any major leaguer reached the 140 RBI mark was in 2009, when both Prince Fielder and Ryan Howard had 141.
