I think Roger Hornsby was cursed with a few cards with terrible design choices. This one needs no explanation. A beautiful card if the type had been placed somewhere else or the artwork had been modified to accommodate the type somewhere else.

As they planned the 1974 set, I imagine the conversation in the Topps art department went something like this...
"We've pictured Hammerin' Hank from every conceivable angle over his career, so what can we possibly do differently, people?" "Boss, I've got it!!!!!!! Let's basically show the back of his head!!!!!"
