The card posted by SilverBall67 and the program posted by Ty really do show the odd shape of the old footballs. Does this style of ball have a name? I can't imagine throwing that thing!
One eBay purchase arrived today. 1952 Bowman large #39 Emlen Tunnell. Of course I enjoy putting these sets together, but I know nothing about the players pictured including Emlen until I read about him on the internet. Card "books" for $125 in NM shape and I won this one for $13.33 delivered. 1. First African American to play for the NY Giants (1948) 2. Pro Football HOF 1967 the first African American inducted 3. Suffered a broken neck playing in college, so severe that he was rejected by both the Army and Navy during WWII (he did serve in the Coast Guard) 4. Undrafted out of college, he hitchhiked to New York to ask for a try out. 5. Died of a heart attack in 1975 on the football field while acting as an assistant coach with the Giants. Larry
