Maybe you should try and not being an a**hole all the time. Every single day you just make a**/rude comments and try pissing people off.
Also you should learn what the term "Photo Matched" means. Because based on your posts on GUU, you seem to not understand what it means. The item is actually supposed to match the item in the photo and have details that back it up. Not just a helmet that shows no use and saying it's a match because supposedly they were issued only one helmet. Last edited by yanks12025; 11-21-2014 at 03:36 PM. |

Thanks for the kind words. The uniform, as some might know, was offered the most recent REA event. The description listed it as a road jersey. There was also some inaccurate information in the LOA that came with the uniform, but it was of little consequence since I knew what it was that I was buying. The source of the uniform was a Dodgers Bull Pen catcher (mid 1936 to partial season 1939). With 1938 being smack dab in the middle of this time range, I decided to look at images from 15 June 1938 (First Night Game at Ebbets Field/Vandy’s 2nd No-No). I found an image that I believe shows a guy walking off the field post game with the Dodgers pitchers and he appears to be wearing this style of jersey.
The contrast is easy to see as the 1938 Dodgers uniform featured the script “DODGERS” applique that we see today. It is clearly not a CINCINNATI jersey as those did not feature soutahce along the placket as this style does. I am currently in the process of trying to obtain a better quality image to confirm the style. If this holds up, I will likely contact the family member to see if she can identify the man in the picture as her father. I don’t get the chance to spend as much time on my own stuff as I would like, but I am certainly enjoying this one to no end. Dave Grob Dave Grob1@aol.com |

Many thanks to net54 member Chris Gamble for helping find one of the Holy Grail items on my want list.
Here is my newly acquired ceremonial medal from Johnny Vander Meer Day on September 21, 1938 in Vandy's hometown of Midland Park, NJ. Vander Meer Day was given in Vandy's honor to celebrate his unparalleled feat of pitching back-to-back no-hitters on June 11th and June 15th, 1938. This is a perfect compliment to the other two pieces that I own in my collection related to Vander Meer Day: An original program from Vander Meer Day as well as an original photograph from the Vander Meer Day Testimonial Banquet that occurred the evening of September 21st. In attendance was Vandy's Cincinnati Reds skipper Bill McKechnie. He is sitting at a table with Vandy at the front of the room Last edited by Scott Garner; 11-24-2014 at 05:19 PM. |

Thanks! Yes, actually I think that I am going to frame all 3 pieces together. Perhaps something similar to the way that I framed my vintage Vander Meer pennant, or using double or triple mat (perhaps red and blue). Here is what my Vandy pennant looks like. All suggestions are definitely appreciated while I ponder this! |

I would consider something more '3-dimensional'. These items may be too large, but the large rectangular football helmet display cases are pretty good for displaying groups of items.

I actually did know that this medal existed. Barry Halper owned one which sold in an catalogue auction within the last year. Unfortunately I missed it and have been kicking myself ever since. However, I did not know that there was more than one until this one became available recently. I don't know how many of these were given out, but I do know that they are scarce, FWIW. I'm very happy to add this one because it really falls into the sweet spot of my Vander Meer collection- Everything related to his historic 1938 season in which he threw an unprecedented back-to-back no-hitters. ![]() Last edited by Scott Garner; 11-26-2014 at 04:53 AM. |

This just arrived. Acquired because of the unusual jerseys and great glove examples. The three guys on the left look like brothers. And, of course, the guy at the lower-right is Joe Jackson. Accepting bids now.

Another cool recent pick-up.
In this photo, Joe Jackson was on leave and happened to stay in the same hotel as the Giants and White Sox, who were playing an exhibition game. I was lucky in that the photographer managed to catch Jackson, as well as Amos Rusie and Charlie Comiskey, in this wonderful shot. Rusie is holding a dog, Comiskey a baseball and Jackson a glove. They are the only dog, baseball and glove in the photo - can you find them?

Got these as part of a lot... 1953 batting order cards of the tigers and St Louis Browns. I'm not sure whose copies these were, but I believe there were 3 or 4 copies for each game... In doing some research I found that Don Larsen pitched against the tigers 3 times in his rookie campaign in Detroit, but only once did he duel against Billy Hoeft: April 18, 1953! Which also happened to be Don Larsen's major league debut!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on net54!
Please enjoy your time spent with family. I've always thought that Thanksgiving is the best holiday because this is what it's all about, FWIW. I recently picked up two nice additions to my no-hit ticket collection. One is a ticket stub to HOF Sandy Koufax's masterpiece perfect game on 9/9/65 vs. the Chicago Cubs. Tough luck losing pitcher Bob Hendley only allowed 1 hit making this arguably one of the greatest pitched games ever in ML history. The second ticket stub has been unbelievably tough to locate- KC Royals' Jim Colborn's no-hitter vs. the Texas Rangers on May 14th, 1977. Plenty of fans attended this game- 29,978, but this is the FIRST example of this ticket that I have ever even heard of existing in the 34 years following the game. Anyway, I'm very happy to own it. ![]() I now have tickets to 193 different no-hitter games dating back to 1901. BTW, I only need tickets to 15 no-hitter games from 1940 to present, which I still believe is an attainable goal. PLMK if you have any tickets to pre-1980 no-hitter games that you are willing to sell or trade. Last edited by Scott Garner; 11-27-2014 at 10:19 AM. |

Thanks, great question! You would sure think that this ticket would be findable, but it's been very elusive. FWIW, KC Royals, MN Twins, ATL Braves, TX Rangers, OAK A's, MONT Expos. TOR Blue Jays and SD Padres tickets from the 1970's and 1980's are very tough. Their fans for some reason do not typically save their tickets. Additionally, the Royals, for many games in the 1970's, had very light attendance (most games were far less than 10,000 fans). Other ticket collector friends that I know have been similarly challenged in finding Royals baseball ticket stubs from this era... BTW, I also collect tickets to all Nolan Ryan pitched games regardless of outcome (win, loss or no-decision). Tickets to the cities I mentioned above are all most challenging. Case in point, until recently I still had 5 KC Royals dates that I needed for my Nolan Ryan ticket collection. It's been at least 3 years since I found the last Ryan ticket at KC. I stumbled on to a seller that had a season ticket holders collection of Royals tickets spanning 3 decades. All of the tickets were neatly taped into a scorebook that the season ticket holder had scored each game. Fortunately the fan attended virtually every game. Along with the Colborn no-hitter ticket, I was fortunate enough to close out all my ticket needs for KC in one shot. Unbelieveable! I'm getting close to competing my Ryan ticket collection. I currently have 747/807 of Ryan's regular season career pitching appearances (92.5% complete). I have been working on this particular collection since 1972. ![]() Last edited by Scott Garner; 11-29-2014 at 06:32 AM. |

Picked up these at a bottle show today. The first is a postcard is from 1910, the second postcard is from 1907. Pretty cool baseball postcards I thought. I also picked up a boxing postcard of Mickey Landis. On the back he signed it. Does anybody know of Mickey Landis and if the signature is good?
