Ted, glad to help. If you need any help educating SGC on this please let me know. On the plus side, the printing on both types are the same and that is the truly spectacular aspect of these cards.

Default V 61-1

Here are some Neilsen's V 61-1 & V 61-2. The Type 1 cards are printed with the company name in a Gothic script on the reverse and seem to have a thinner more fragile card stock. The fonts used in a Type 2 card is plain, on a thicker card stock. The photo's were used in other sets including E121's (purist classify some of these as W 575-1's), some strip cards like W573's and even some pre-war W572's with a modern (ie post-2000) stamp added that looks like a V61-2 Neilsen's ad back.

The Type I set has approx. 120 cards with a good mix of big names including Cobb, Ruth, Johnson, Sisler, Hornsby, Alexander, Collins, Goslin and Wheat.

Yes, Ken, it can get better - how about a tobacco trade card with Wag's picture on it?!!

BTW, your beautiful D310-Peckinpaugh would sure make a nice addition to my 1924 Senators players' card collection!

Best,

W554's - Whenever I asked about these at shows, I usually get a "what are they?" or "I don't have any strip cards." A nice small set packed with HOFers and some tough variations. Here are my two with Bonemery stamped backs

When I first joined Net54, a board member was kind enough to send these three cards to me as a gift (thanks again, Scott.) They are still in my collection and I intend to keep it that way.

If I have done my homework properly, they are, from left to right:

- 1929-30 Four-on-one Exhibits L. A. Blue/O. Melillo/F. O. Rourke (Frank O'Rourke)/F. Schulte

- 1916 M101-4 Sporting News Joe Connolly

- 1939-46 Salutation Exhibits Carl Hubbell

Bringing these out tonight to scan them reminded me that there is much more to Pre-War than just T206. Thanks for starting this thread, Bill.

Best Regards,

Eric

Jeff, I like the Stevens Firearms Philadelphia Athletics I was actually going
to ask if anyone had any of these since you rarely see them. Although I
don't collect guns having grown up in a family that hunted I have a number
of them and it combines two of my interests, so in the future I would like
to own one.

Leon, It was me thanks for posting yours. I know they come in different
colors but most of the ones I have seen have been blue.
Have you seen any of these for sale recently?

No, I haven't seen one for sale in at least a few years, from what I can remember. They do come up and aren't too terribly expensive when they do.....A common might be $150-$250 and a HOF'er might double that, depending on grade etc....They are neat though...and I especially like them when they have specific company ink stamps on them, as the top one does.

Not much chatter about Wheaties cards but I think they're not only some of the better looking cards of the 1930s, they are some of the best values for 'budget-conscious' HOF collectors:

Being a native and life-long Virginian, one of my next-to-impossible collecting goals is all of the cards with Virginia State League players. T206 and T210-2 cards are relatively easy to obtain, but T209-2 and E222 cards are really tough. If anyone is willing to part with an E222, I have good stuff to trade, including a N403 Yum Yum and a N172 Hank O'Day.

When I first started showing interest in the Goudey cards as a teen an older collector suggested looking at the Delong set as well. He was right these are nice cards, but never got another one after my first:
