Hello,
Anyone know anything about cabinets from the photographer Gilbert Bacon? I have seen some of Philadelphia Athletics players. |

Gilbert & Bacon would supply Goodwin & Co. with Philadelphia players in 1888. The American Association Athletics would be all new to the N172 set in 1888, all supplied by Gilbert & Bacon. Conversely, only a few new National League Quakers were added to the set in 1888 courtesy Gilbert & Bacon. Most Philadelphia Quaker N172 cards issued in 1888 were based off the 1887 photo shoot from Gray Studio.

Below is a Goodwin and Company proof for one of Gus Weyhing's Old Judge baseball cards. Although it is hard to see because of the background, the Goodwin and Company copyright embossing is on the lower left of the card about a third of the way up from the bottom.

They also do boxing. I've had a couple cabinets of Arthur Chambers.

How much would one expect to pay in order to acquire one?

Gilbert & Bacon was a very prominent photography studio in Philadelphia, and they were the main photographer for the University of Pennsylvania.

Which players? What conditions? Have any sold before?
There's almost certainly no 'book value' on items that are this scarce. I'll repeat what a wise collector once told me - "you should pay what you want if you want them, and not worry about the resale value". |
