My equivalent to the Gehrig "rear view" photo is the Philadelphia Athletics White Elephant Stanford Pottery Bank. For whatever reason, the 5 other teams are all prevalent and attainable. The Tigers Bank used to be considered extremely rare (and went for up to $2,000), but the advent of Ebay proved there were actually a fair number out there. Prices have since come down so much that you can now "steal" one for under $1K.
Not so for the Athletics Bank. It surfaces once in a blue moon... and when it does, it's a bloodbath (because every baseball figural collector needs one). Not to mention all those Philadelphia Athletics collectors. If anybody spots one, there's a nice "finders fee" so please be sure to let me know! Last edited by perezfan; 07-06-2010 at 07:50 PM. |
