What are you looking for at the National?
Alright, it might be a little early to start a thread like this, but I figured I'd go for it anyways.
Out of the people who are going to the National next month, what are y'all looking for? Since I won't be exhibiting, I'll have a few days to walk around, which I'm very much looking forward to. I'm hoping to get some nice photos and painting reference as per usual, with really only one main thing I'm hoping to find. I'm hoping to land a photo (or six) of Lou Gehrig from an angle that I feel like I never get to him from. I'm a huge fan of player images shot from behind home plate while they're at bat. I've only found one genuine game situation shot of Gehrig from that angle, and a few from spring training. Here's what I have, and hopefully I can find more!! (And of course, if any of you have more or see any at the show, give me a shout!) http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b158/GKreindler/1.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b158/GKreindler/2.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b158/GKreindler/3.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b158/GKreindler/4.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b158/GKreindler/5.jpg It just seems that for whatever reason, though I can find such shots of Ruth, DiMaggio, Mantle and plenty of other non-Yankee Hall of Famers, it's soooo hard to get ones of the Iron Horse. How about you guys? Graig |
I'm hoping to find some nice bats and maybe a figural trophy or a tuxedo sign. Buying was good last year, so hopefully it will continue this year.

My equivalent to the Gehrig "rear view" photo is the Philadelphia Athletics White Elephant Stanford Pottery Bank. For whatever reason, the 5 other teams are all prevalent and attainable. The Tigers Bank used to be considered extremely rare (and went for up to $2,000), but the advent of Ebay proved there were actually a fair number out there. Prices have since come down so much that you can now "steal" one for under $1K.
Not so for the Athletics Bank. It surfaces once in a blue moon... and when it does, it's a bloodbath (because every baseball figural collector needs one). Not to mention all those Philadelphia Athletics collectors. If anybody spots one, there's a nice "finders fee" so please be sure to let me know! |

I will be looking for, but I am sure will not find, a Frankford Yellowjackets pennant. There are also a few Eagles pennants that I am aware of that I need.
I will be also setting up at the show, bringing a wide variety of 19th century to early 20th century football and baseball memorabilia, photos, etc with the occassional basketball, crew, boxing, etc, piece mixed in. |
Clemente Clemente Clemente
Rare or unusual Clemente items. Also food issue and topps test stuff that catches my eye. See ya all there.

That photo of Gehrig from behind home plate at the old Comisky park is awesome!! I love that shot as there is so much action in it. That would make a good picture for someone we all know to paint!!! :)
