Here are a few that come to mind....

1. One scenario would be to simplify any tax consequences, assuming he was selling the cards as a favor for a friend/relative/neighbor/loan shark buddy etc.

2. He wasn't 110% sure they were real and did not want the negative feedback on his regular account.

3. Didn't want his wife, ex-wife, current-girlfriend, and the lawyer of his ex-wife to find out he has more $$$.
