While the writing in the background has nothing to do with the player, it does give a clue: William Faulkner was notorious for doing book signings in Mississippi to promote his early works. This makes sense as his writing was clearly unreadable even in the 1920's - his only chance of success was through self-advertisement. Clearly the player in the photo played for a wretched team that felt it could draw a crowd by promoting yet another miserable Faulkner book-signing. |
