It looks to me like the Ruth and Brady signatures feature similar flairs in the ink. I've been told that when you see ink flair like that, it typically means new ink has been applied to old paper.
In Brady's case, that makes perfect sense. He was supposed to be signing an old piece of paper with new ink. But why would Ruth's signature flair like that? It's supposed to be period ink on contemporary paper. Probably because it's new ink on old paper as well.
