I like the 2018 Topps Update #US285. It's a nice, classic photo, without all the weird graphics that you see in a lot of modern rookie cards. Designated a rookie card by Topps. They are not rare, but you can get them in a PSA10 for under $250 on eBay right now.
I also really, really like the 2013 BBM Rookie Edition #42 (available in both a batting version and a pitching version). This is Ohtani's first Japanese rookie card, which means it is his first card. You can find them ungraded for around $250 on eBay right now.
