I picked up a Gold Medal Foods envelope in a lot of R cards I won last week. I did a quick search for the addressee and discovered a recent obituary for the man.
I discovered that he was a New Years Day baby and would have been 12 years old for the 1934 World Series (about the age of my son). Though a Massachusetts kid (all but the R313As in the lot I won are Boston players), he nevertheless went to college at Simpson College in Iowa (15 minutes from my house). He was a veteran of WWII and Korea. He was married to his wife till death did them part after 61 years. I have seen several other Gold Medal envelopes on here over the years, has anyone else been able to track down their original owner's story? Stories of original owners from other mail delivered premiums are also welcome here. |
