I haven't read the OC article (issue #4) in some time, so it may say otherwise, but keep in mind that the American League was established in 1903. Without checking every single player in the set and matching the teams they played for (which would give an accurate time frame for when this series was issued), and considering the rather archaic printing means of the period, I would venture to say the set likely was issued as a promotion in early 1904 - shortly after the very first World Series.
