The art of this thread has been neglected.
Nitschke, a quarterback in high school, was a dumpee before he was a dumper. In my youth I kept records of this stat, before it was fashionable, but I inadvertently dumped those files. Deacon Jones, who didn't play in 1959 is generally considered the father of the dump, now sack. Retrospectively he is credited with 173 1/2 dumps (sacks), which was head and shoulders above his peers. He was a teammate of Lamar Lundy, who witnessed Deacon's earliest dumps. Sacks as an official stat are only about 35 years old.
